@jump Oh, interesting! Many video game websites have claimed otherwise. Well, that dents my whole theory about these rumours. (Sigh)

Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.

@BruceCM I'm just speculating! I don't know how important anniversaries are to Nintendo and if they find them a useful tool. Did they get lucky with the anniversary of Mario falling in the same year as the Olympics? which I think was a driver for the opening of Mario World.

I don't know if it's realistic to expect BOTW2 and Metroid Prime 4 in the same year? rather than releasing Metroid Prime 4 in August 2021 maybe they announce it then as their 2021 holiday game? And the big question is if either of those games is delayed due to lock down.

Yeah, does anyone really know what Nintendo is thinking, @MarioBrickLayer .... ? If they do, they're keeping very quiet about it! All we have here are speculations, really. With odd tidbits of possible info but so mixed up with rumours & so on as to be difficult to distinguish

I think Splatoon 3 should be announced following Splatoon 2

@Slowdive given a choice i'd prefer wind waker and twlight princess, I don't see the need for a link to the past remake as it's available via switch online and 16 bit graphics still look great!

Been thinking... I wish leaks never existed. If Monday’s Direct randomly happened, everyone would be really happy about it. Since we were all expecting it, as well as Mario Remasters, we all had huge expectations and were disappointed.

@BabyYoshi12 I think it would've been received badly regardless as it doesn't solve the major current problem with Switch, that the upcoming lineup after July is very barren. The Partner Showcase's existence suggests a full Direct isn't happening anytime soon and the labeling of the Partner Showcase as "July 2020" rather than the specific date suggests there won't be another one in July.

So it pretty much looks like most of the year that has passed where more news on Animal Crossing is a distraction from the drought (we know the next update is in early August so we'll likely find out about it next week at the latest).

@BabyYoshi12 I disagree. Even with no expectations whatsoever that "Direct" was still ***** and unnecessary.

If you are a Shin Megami Tensei fan then I bet the trailer was amazing! unfortunately I'm not and it appears that neither are most people on this forum!

Yeah, the problem is Ninty have gone silent for months including June/E3 which is a major announcement time plus they have no games with release dates so since the direct didn't tackle those things it would of still went down like a lead balloon even without expectations.

@MarioBrickLayer I'm a fan and happy with the trailer (as well as the Cadence of Hyrule DLC) however SMTs are coming out in 2021 which doesn't fix what games are coming out for the rest of 2020.

I just felt it could have been its own announcement and trailer. There was no need for a direct. If you haven't got more than 4 games to show off (unless they're all amazing), then don't bother.

Well, it helps a lot knowing those are coming, @MarioBrickLayer .... But I also want to know about games this year, like others here Since they did say that mini is the 1st in a series, at least we can expect some more of them but if the next is a month or more away, then it's a couple of months more for physical releases, that's awhile
Fortunately, until they actually announced the mini, I wasn't convinced we'd get anything, so I'm not disappointed like others are

@Reprise Fair enough! I suppose if they were both coming in the next few months you might have been happy!

@BruceCM I want to know what's coming too! Unless the reviews say they are terrible I will buy every Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Pikmin game Nintendo releases, I'm desperate to know what I will be able to play this year!

Yeah, I'm happy SMT V is finally coming, since it was promised back when it was still the upcoming NX, @MarioBrickLayer .... Usually, any direct would be while there's still at least one 1st party game scheduled & a few decent 3rd party ones expected, though That's basically the problem here, there's so little coming to Switch this year, as far as we know. As long as they're saying their games are currently on schedule, we're like, well, when's that, then?
Hence, they'd be better off saying 'sorry, our upcoming games are still in progress but they're taking longer due to the work from home difficulties', perhaps with some idea when any might be, even if it's 'we hope to release X this year & will update as soon as we have a definite date' or something

@MarioBrickLayer Yeah, that's basically it. Unfortunately "sometime in 2021" just isn't that exciting right now, with the rest of 2020 looking barren.

I would have thought the virus would affect Ninty's line up for next year more so than this years, games take years to develop so the ones originally coming this year must have been on the final hurdles.

@jump One of my friends speculated the reason for all this could be because they're getting increasingly nervous about 2021, as games that were well into development when the virus hit were impacted the most. So as a result, they're waiting till the last possible second to announce and release games this year, in case they need to spread them out into next year if those 2021 games are delayed.

Just speculation, of course, but it does make you wonder.

As @BruceCM said, I'd just appreciate some transparency really. But I guess the more transparent they are the more it could negatively affect them maybe. I don't know.

BruceCM

Well, with the ongoing situation, I'm sure the majority understand about delays, @Reprise .... Several games have been delayed a bit this year, due to that, primarily

@Reprise
Loosing momentum in 2020 due to lack of new games would also negatively impact Nintendo's success for 2021. Delaying games into 2021 makes sense, but only if you then fill those gaps with ports and remakes (which are relatively easy to make). Why doesn't Nintendo announce Pikmin 3, 3D World, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and the Mario Collection? In my opinion it would be the worst idea for Nintendo to just delay all their games into 2021 and then release nothing in 2020.
