What day are we expecting the June Nintendo Direct? We know it is most likely a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. I'd imagine that Tuesday isn't that likely as Nintendo typically prefers doing it on Wednesdays/Thursdays when possible. I also think that the last full week of June is unavailable due to Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. They might want to avoid the week before it as well.
Therefore my prediction goes down to 4 days; June 5, 6, 12, and 13.
Do you think this is likely? Which of these days makes the most sense?
@PikminMarioKirby I think it'll be June 19th. June 6th is Summer Game Fest and June 9th is Xbox showcase so Nintendo probably don't want to have their Direct around then. Meanwhile LM2 on June 27th likely means the Direct isn't the week beginning June 24th either.
Which leaves the week beginning June 17th and Nintendo seems to prefer Wednesday Directs.
@Grumblevolcano Ah yes I didn't realize those events were happening at those times (as Nintendo isn't in them so nothing I'm really interested in). June 6th is definitely out of the question (at least, most likely). This most likely means the Direct wouldn't be on the 5th either.
However, I disagree that Xbox showcase means that there won't be a Direct on the 12th or 13th. The Xbox showcase is the 9th, which 3-4 days before. Xbox doesn't really compete against Nintendo anyways so I don't think Nintendo cares. Ultimately Nintendo's presentations often overshadow other presentations because of how much better they are (like the Playstation Directs being overshadowed by Nintendo Directs on the same day), so if it's 3-4 days after I think Nintendo's perfectly fine with that.
Typically Nintendo doesn't like to have Nintendo Directs too close to their releases, unless it's the week after. Obviously, though, the week after Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is pretty much July, and since we know the Direct is in June, that does not seem to be the case. Having a Direct a week before a game is pretty rare, if I'm remembering correctly.
My guess is that the Direct will be on June 12th, as that seems like the most available day to do one. I guess June 13th would work as well, but my bets are on a June 12 2024 Direct.
@PikminMarioKirby I'm looking at it from an E3 perspective. E3 locked Nintendo into having their event very close to the others (would've been June 11th at 5pm UK time if E3 happened this year) but when E3 was gone, Nintendo made sure to stay clear from the other showcases to have the spotlight all to themselves. For example XC3 Direct June 22nd 2022, Partner Showcase June 28th 2022, General Direct June 21st 2023.
E3 is permanently dead now so I'd be very surprised if the Direct appeared only a few days after the others. To be honest, I'd be predicting June 26th if it wasn't for LM2. Directs usually have 1st party shadow drops and I feel the only way a June 26th general Direct could work out is if either there were no 1st party shadow drops or if the shadow drop was LM1 with physical release in like August/September.

That is a really good point about e3. With e3 they were forced to have their show close with the others, but would often try to choose the last day for a banger ending and to stand out above the crowd. But now those restrictions aren’t there, and can have some flexibility for when the Direct is. They always seem to be later than all other presentations even without e3, which is kind of a tradition at this point.
19th is still in the question, although I’m still leaning on the 12th. Either are still possible, especially since LM2 is a smaller release and they’d probably be fine having a Direct the week before it as long as they show it there.
@Magician A physical version has technically already been confirmed considering digital only releases mention "Nintendo eShop" on the release date screen.
See the difference between World of Goo 2 (12:40) and Fantasy Life i (13:58) release date screens for example.
@Grumblevolcano Certainly an optimistic perspective. But many of the games in that Direct have had physical preorders open for months now. Other games have had their releases come and gone already. With Fantasy Life i being one of my most anticipated Switch exclusives of 2024, I'm a little anxious about the lack of preorders for it.

The last general Nintendo Direct was 8 months ago, in September last year. That's about 2/3 of a year. We're not expecting another one until June, which means an even longer gap between general Nintendo Directs. 2020 aside, this could be one of the longest waits between general Nintendo Directs since the Switch has released. 3-5 months is the wait for general Directs a lot of times, this is significantly higher!
On a side note, I thought that Direct was awesome. Most of it wasn't great, but the final reveal (Paper Mario TTYD remake) single-handedly made it one of the best Directs of all time
2018 had a March direct instead of Feb, but since then there have only been 3 exceptions to Feb/Jun/Sep general directs (which I guess is technically half the years since then) — All of 2020, June 2022, and Feb 2024. So technically a longer gap than 2022, but really just a 'one direct gap'.
For the September 2023 Direct I was honestly going in just wanting details about Peach game and was surprised at how much else they gave us given the insanely packed June 2023 direct.
@FishyS The September to February wait is the longest, so since this year didn't have a general Direct in February (or any month until June), it makes this one longer than the February to September wait from 2022. But yeah both are just missing one main Direct, so it's essentially the same thing. This one just happens to be longer.
Yeah they did end up giving some Peachtime there, that was one of the best parts of it, the abilities are so cool! The June 2023 Direct was one of my favorites (focused on Mario and Pikmin) as well, and because of how good that was I wasn't expecting much out of the September Direct besides trailers for the already-announced games. Thankfully, Nintendo still had a really good show with Paper Mario announcement, and also the Super Mario RPG and Peachtime trailers.
Very good news, all previous Direct NSO updates are now 100% completed. The Japan exclusive GB game announced in the February 2023 Direct is out now for Japan NSO as part of a GB wave.
Gonna echo the sentiment that we'll be getting another NSO roadmap next Direct to close out the current Switch's lifecycle. As for what those games could be, I've got some thoughts myself:
Metroid Zero Mission: Perhaps the most obvious choice of the lot. It's a highly beloved remake, its been released on Virtual Console in the past, Fusion is already on NSO (the first post-launch GBA game at that) and hell: they found references to it in Fusion's NSO port back when that originally came out in MARCH of last year. Suffice to say, if any other GBA game is coming to NSO, its absolutely going to be this one. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones + Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland: Two seemingly easy locks for the service given how both Blazing Blade and Amazing Mirror already made their way over last year. Wario Land 4: Not as confident on this one given how we've only got Wario Land 3 in terms of Wario Land games on NSO but given how popular WL4 is within the general Nintendo/gaming space, I imagine it'll probably come over sooner rather than later. Grab-Bag: There honestly aren't THAT many GBA titles left that aren't either on NSO already or a part of Switch collection so here's a handful of smaller-scale games that I think miiiiiiiiight come over too:

They usually also have one last MAJOR NSO announcement at the end of these segments as well (Goldeneye and Earthbound being the prime example) and for GBA, there are two options: A. Pokemon Gens 1, 2 and 3 (highly unlikely but you never know)
OR B. An officially translated version of Mother 3 (not expecting this in a million years but it'd be the perfect capstone for the Switch generation if you ask me )
