Topic: My Switch turns on when I take it out of the dock

My Switch just turns on when I take it out of the dock or plug it in to charge. Is there a way to disable this so it stays off unless only when I turn it on?

I think they all do that.

Is the dock plugged in? Because if it is, that's perfectly normal. The Switch, no matter docked or not, turns on if you plug in the power cable, even if it is to simply charge it up. There's sadly no way to turn that off.

When you put it in its to notify you it has a charge and is in fact charging. Taking it out is the same but in reverse

It's frustrating. It's like Nintendo wants our batteries to die as quickly as possible so that we all have to buy replacement batte.... oh wait...

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

But the 3DS and Wii U gamepad you can plug it in to charge and it doesn't turn on. The same should be for the Switch when it's plugged in or taken out of dock if its power was off.

@Don That's just how it is. I don't know if, or more precisely I doubt, it can be changed via update. Accepting that's just how thing are is the right thing to do here.

You should've seen me back in March all ranting about how the Switch's Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers should have had Power button that turned the console off completely so you could turn it off completely from the comfort of wherever you're playing your games from. But since the power cable is switching the console back on if plugged into the Switch herself or the dock, I doubt a Power button like with Gamepad or an option in the menus like PS4 would have worked. Anyway, I've got accustomed to all that in the matter of a week or two so at the end, you may find your current issues not that big a deal.

Plus, many other devices like smartphones or tablets also turn on if plugged in to charge.

If Switch is in sleep mode when you dock it, it won't turn the TV on and switch inputs. The Switch is designed to never truly be powered off- as mentioned before your battery will last longer if you simply use sleep mode.

So if you are docking and want to play on TV, tap the home button to wake it up first, then dock and it'll activate TV power on and switch inputs for you. If you are docking and do not want to play on TV, simply dock while in sleep mode and nothing will happen, and it will start charging.

I think most of people's issues brought up in this thread are a result of trying to turn Switch all the way off. If you just adjust to how it was designed, and use sleep mode, it's such a smooth experience it's hard to believe Nintendo actually made it.

I just want to know if there is a way to fully turn off the Switch, while docked, and NOT have it then charge continuously even though it's not in sleep mode

I just hate the thought of what it might be doing to the battery, as I keep mine docked and turned off properly, and yet it's always at 100% when I turn it on.

I know that shouldn't really be a complaint per se, but surely if I turn it off properly at 100% battery, leave it docked, and then don't play on it for say, 3 weeks, the battery should have gone down.

The only thing I can think of is to turn it off at the mains or unplug the power chord, which I really don't want to worry about doing each time

Is this just the way it's designed?
