What mediocre games do you enjoy.

I would say Pokemon to be rather facetious, but I'm actually more engrossed this time around then I was with Arceus or Sword/Shield varieties.

Maybe the most mediocre game I play is Darkest Dungeon... the labyrinths are all terrible and boring but the combat is so fun that I just play on despite myself.

Stunt Race FX is unironically one of my favourite games on the SNES. It's basically a glorified tech demo for the Super FX but despite it being relatively bland and framey it has this kind of charm about it. I also played it as a kid who had a SNES in the N64 era, so there's a lot of nostalgia on-top of it

I kinda feel the same way about Star Fox on the SNES. Something about that flat texture proto-3D game has a charm about it I'm just into

Way of the Samurai series. Firmly a B tier series but even the jank is fun. Tenchu (also originally developed by the same dev) series, it’s a ton of fun but also a B rank series.

Actually anything made by Aquire is gonna be in my must by list.

Contra: Rogue Corps - From a series known for 2D run'n'gunning to an isometric action/rpg? I like the swerve in game direction here. Unfortunately, the game is marred by a convoluted progression system, muddy textures, and a soundtrack the feels out of place. This might be the best 4/10 experience I've ever had.

Giraffe and Annika - 3D platformer with a dash of music/rhythm. The game...was not optimized well for the Switch, there's pop-in and some jank. But the game has lots of whimsical charm and the story is heartwarming. Not great, but at the same time I have no regrets.

The Hong Kong Massacre - Basically, it's a Hotline Miami clone, but with an art style that leans towards something more realistic. Top-down arcade action. Here you'll find that "just one more try" itch. It's a game that's often discounted down to $2 on the eShop. Wishlist it, wait, and give it a try, for me.

I loved Harvest Moon The Lost Valley, and find the other Harvest Moons made by Natsume pretty enjoyable.

I've made no secret here of my absolute adoration for WinBack: Covert Ops. Is it an all-time classic? Definitely not. But the way it fully replicates the cheesy 90's thriller movie while also just being plain fun to go through will always make this one hold a special place in my heart. Still have to properly beat it though, I'm currently in the final stretch!

Paper Mario Color Splash for sure. The combat isn’t great, but I honestly don’t mind it as much as everyone else does. The graphics, music, dialogue, and level design are all phenomenal and I will die on that hill.

Glover comes to mind. Quite a few 2002 era GCN games based on my nostalgia for them (Spiderman 1, Rocket Power, Robotech: Battle Cry). Maybe Sonic 3D Blast, but that might be my bias towards great video game music, since I've probably listened to its soundtrack for more time than played the game. (...also a game I first played in 2002 now that I think about it)

I dunno, the vast majority of games I'm into I genuinely think are really good, and I still maintain Star Fox Zero is good (and is better than every game I just mentioned) and not just a guilty pleasure so...eh.

Actually Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is probably a good choice. That's the most repetitive and meaningless game I've maybe ever played, and I do love that one.

Woah Dave.

Pretty non-descript and mediocre indie game that I'd never have looked twice at on PS4/Wii U/etc., but the gameplay loop was quick and mindless enough that it made a PERFECT portable game to play on my PS Vita while listening to podcasts/watching TV/etc. Add in a massive amount of score chasing to collect all of the trophies, and you have a very mediocre product that I had to have pumped tens of hours into, if not more.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PC); Unicorn Overlord (NS)

Sonic Heroes: I just love the core gameplay of switching between speed/flying/power types on the fly. Really disappointed that Sonic Team didn't revisit this concept.

Pokemon Colosseum: I love the world-building in this one, and quite enjoy the challenge of attempting to snag a Pokemon while battling trainers.

Recore: Again, felt the core gameplay (mix of platforming and third-person shooting) in this was solid. I loved the atmosphere.

I've always been really curious about this game, mostly because of how many former Metroid Prime devs worked on it.

Sonic adventure and NES metroid spring to mind. Played them so much I forget how janky and unfair they can be at first try

@brendathecat
Metroid (NES), really didn´t age well ... I´ve never played it before ... tried it using the NES catalog available for the Switch Online but couldn´t stand the cluncky controls

One mediocre game that I love is Konami´s Dr. Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights for the 3DS. At the time of its release, it was considered a Prof. Layton rip-off and nobody give it much attention ... but I think that game has a lot of charm, despite some design flaws.

Pokemon XY, it's a obvious step down in quality compared to its predecessors but it's still one of my most played 3DS games. I just loved it and still have a soft spot for it despite it being the beginning of Pokemon's downfall.

Good... good
Now play Dragon Quest

Project X Zone might be a good example too. It's a strategy game where you rarely need actual strategy, and you do some fighting game-ish combos to a still enemy for attacks. Also its a crossover game where I only am that familiar with the specifics of a few characters (like I knew the fighting game characters, but not much about them, for example), so its not even pandering to me as much as a Smash Bros or anything.

But it did fit that Hyrule Warriors mindless time waster role for me and I really liked it for that. Also more people liked Project X Zone 2 over the first one, which I actually liked it less. Part of that is probably because I did not need to play two of these games (it is not an Age of Calamity type follow up), but also they just made weird decisions that made it less interesting to me. Like building up your meter past 100% didn't involve any clever timing, I have no idea why they changed that. So the less liked game in this very niche crossover series was actually a standout for me on 3DS.

Hmm Mediocre games. I haven’t really played any games or found anything that I consider mediocre. I consider everything to be good in my eyes.
