Topic: Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Apparently it's gong to be a while, Nintendo used the same hardware inside the NES and SNES minis, but it's nowhere near powerful enough to emulate the N64 of GC, and the cost of putting the required hardware in the case + licencing costs makes it too expensive.

Hopefully in a few years we'll see hardware cheap enough for them to release it, I think a good indication would be if a future Raspberry PI can emulate the N64 without any issues then I think we'll be there.

Although this is a limited edition. It doesn’t feel like one. It should at least come with a steel case, art book, stickers or even a real life FLUDD

@MarioBrickLayer I think that Nintendo 64 is coming to Switch Online next year and that GameCube and Wii games will be available on the eShop some time after. I would love a Nintendo 64 Classic but it's not just what you said but also the big controllers and the lack of ownership of some of the best Nintendo 64, Rare's games.

@BlueOcean i think next year is too late. They might as well put it on their next system. I feel Gamecube/Wii games will come after another decade

I’m a sucker for steelbook cases. I have every 1st party steel case to date, even European and Japanese variants. The Mario Maker 2 steelbook looks SO good. I’m trying to imagine a 3D All Stars steelbook and 3D World steelbook... ah man. That would be glorious. Especially if it had a transparent slipcover with the 3D All Stars logo on it. Metallic colors on the case.

It’s easy money. Collectors love that stuff. I know I do. With all the merch Nintendo is getting into nowadays, I’m surprised they haven’t capitalized on the collector market more than the occasional pin set (not a fan of pin sets, it’s just useless tat that ends up in a box in the closet).

@JaxonH I agree with the collector's edition comment you made. I wish they made one for Super Mario Odyssey I did get a collectable coin as a preorder bonus, at least.

@JaxonH yea would’ve been great. I think I have them all except the mario kart 8 deluxe steel case. It wasn’t even available in the uk.
The Wii u did have a furry cat Mario cardboard sleeve case so hopefully the switch release gets one or even better just release a limited edition with its music usb artbook and pack in both the amiibos.

Ah, yup. The Mario Kart 8 steelbook was tough to come by. I ultimately had to purchase it on eBay for a marked up premium. But I’m glad I did because having the whole set is nice. If you watch eBay you might get lucky and catch a reasonable offer. When I was trying to track down a sealed copy of Fire Emblem on GBA, it took 6 months before a reasonably priced listing appeared (heck, it took that long for ANY listing to appear, tbh), but I eventually sniped it. You just have to be patient and check back regularly. I know at least a few sellers still have them but, probably for a price higher than you’re willing to pay.

Never saw that slip cover for 3D World. That must’ve been a European thing. I’m fairly certain we’re not getting anything like that because all of the listings just show default box art, and Nintendo tends to treat ports with less enthusiasm as far as special packaging is concerned (Tokyo Mirage Sessions, for example).

Ya, same. I remember feeling confused when they didn’t announce any kind of special edition for that game. I got the coin, too. In fact I think I have several of those coins now. Best Buy was offering them for a lot of first party games for a while. But Idk what to do with them. They don’t show off as well as a nice steel bookcase or limited edition packaging. With Mario being the spearhead of their brand, you’d think their flag ship Mario title would, at the very least, get a cardboard box packaging, but nope. They seem to have little to no interest in Mario Collector Editions (barring a coin or pin set here and there, of course).

Ooh I just saw the pics. Very nice. I remember that one now, but I missed out on it. At least that kind of pin I can appreciate. Comes in a nice box and not in a clear plastic wrapper like some of the others. I actually have one that looks exactly like that except for Metroid.

@JaxonH Yeah - they had a master edition for Breath of the Wild but not with Odyssey. That was so odd to me. I mean, Mario is Nintendo's biggest-selling franchise next to Pokemon, so that was kind of a missed opportunity. If I worked at Nintendo, I totally would've had such a thing happen.

Ah well - at least I enjoyed myself with me playing it. XD

@BlueOcean With 3D All Stars existing, I'm leaning towards NSO additions either stopping after NES and SNES are completed or the GB line (GB, GBC, GBA) being the remaining additions but of course not having the mainline Pokemon games present in the NSO lineup.

N64 being either in collections (like 64 in 3D All Stars) or standalone purchases, GC being mostly ignored, Wii being either ports in collections (like Galaxy in 3D All Stars) or standalone remasters (like Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition), Wii U continuing to be ported like it has been for the last 3 and a half years/

@status-204 a late piece of trivia for you (two days of thread to read XD). Your point is funny because originally Tony Hawk got in touch with nintendo to make the first game, but nintendo wasn't interested, that's when neversoft and activision got involved and it first came out on playstation, and after the success it was also ported on n64. It's in "pretending i'm superman" a documentary about the making of the first game.
@Eel i like the inclusion of soundtracks! but i expected a limited edition with physical CDs.
By the way, ignoring the fact that SEGA has a lot of their OSTs on spotify (i don't want to pass as a SEGA fanboy because i'm not, but they frequently give a better treatment to their fanbase compared to Nintendo), the fact that the f@cking Beatles and the Led Zeppelin convinced themselves to be on spotify, an Nintendo still isn't, tells you everything you need to know about Nintendo as a japanese company. The only recent memory i have of nintendo going out of their way to please the fans was the whole "3DS ambassadors" thing, when they were forced to drop the price of the console shortly after launch because it was too damn high, and they gave away twenty retro games for free to early adopters.
But as with any true love, i love Nintendo also because of its defects.
Also Iwata is one of the best CEOs ever but i digress.

@1UP_MARIO That 3D World sleeve looks pretty cool. I never got that since it wasn't a thing here in the US.

@teo_o Nintendo has a grand total of one official soundtrack being sold on itunes (Mario Odyssey), and it's just a "sounds selection", not the entire thing.

I'd honestly buy them if they decided to sell digital soundtracks like the Pokemon Company does.

Capcom and SE on the other hand, have several soundtracks as part of the Apple Music subscription. So they're quite cool in that regard.
