Hi Ladies & gents

I've not long since I got a Switch to play on and I was wondering if I could trouble anyone for a little assistance finding a good RPG to play? Ideally I'd like to play Octopath Traveller, but that's a bit out of my price range at the moment - so I was hoping to find something to tide me over in the meantime. I'm looking for something that I can play in short breaks around kids/work, so really something that's not too punishing and I can save just about anywhere, preferably turn-based combat and with a decent-ish story (ie. I'm quite happy to play the standard lone hero who has to rescue someone/reunite warring countries/seal the ancient evil etc. but I'd like it to be well written). I've been searching through the eShop (EU if it matters) and I've found a few that seem interesting, but wondered if anyone could point out which are the better examples or make any other recommendations?

Cosmic Star Heroine,
Chronus Arc,
Brave Dungeon,
Antiquia Lost,
Asdivine Hearts

Thank you

Cosmic Star Heroine is pretty highly rated. I'd go for that one.

Wargroove comes out on the first of february, the banner sage is also a really good rpg. Darkest dungeon is also a game I really enjoy although it's harder than your average game. Moonlighter and child of light are both also great games but moonlighter isn't turn based. These are all around the 20 euro price. (world of final fantasy maxima is also great but that's 40...)

Wait for Crosscode and get that. Although that one is like, action-based... but you can use assist mode to make it easier for you (Like lowering the damage they do, and the frequency of attack)

Aren't Wargroove and Banner Saga more strategy games rather than rpgs?

@bixente That was what I thought... (that said Wargroove does look good )

I've been loving Tales of Vesperia recently. But if Octopath is too pricey then Tales is too. Stardew Valley is pretty cheap and has a lot of RPG-like elements. Regalia of Men and Monarchs was a pretty fun game too, and it recently got patched to fix the poor load times it originally suffered from at launch. That game is a nice comedic RPG that had me laughing quite a bit.

@xanderten50 Gonna have to agree with @Anti-Matter and say that you should check out Earthlock.
It's pretty much a solid recommendation for everyone that likes RPG's, and especially jRPG's. It has everything: great characters, wonderful music, solid gameplay and a great story, and lots of things to do.

But considering your comment on Octopath Traveler being out of your price range, I'm afraid this one will probably be as well, but it's still a highly recommended title nonetheless.
What you do have to take into account, though, is that many of these far cheaper options, don't offer as much as the more expensive ones, so gameplay might be shorter, stories and/or graphics might be simpler, and so on.

But, if you don't mind all that, then by all means: I'd say just watch some Let's Play videos from the games you yourself listed, and find out which one(s) interest you the most.

@ThanosReXXX
Btw, did you play the Xbox One version of Earthlock : The Festival of Magic (The first release, not the updated version with name Earthlock without any subtitle) ?

Is Earthlock the Festival of Magic counted as a different game than Earthlock (updated version) ?

Thanks for the replies everyone, I discovered that Earthlock has a demo as well so I'm going to check that out - it looks right up my street

@Anti-Matter I played both. The newer version is slightly more balanced, and tweaked, but other than that, they are largely the same. But if you had to choose one, you'd better go with the latest version. (in other words: not Festival of Magic)

@xanderten50 You're welcome, and if you also enjoyed the music of Earthlock, and you wish to hear more, the developers have put up a page with the entire soundtrack/track list over here:

@CurryPowderKeg79 I agree, forgot all about that one...

@xanderten50 Battle Chasers is definitely also another good option,
so you might want to check that one out as well.
