Lexar has announced world’s first memory card with a capacity of 1 TB. It’s a Class 10 SD card with UHS-I and becomes part of Lexar’s Professional 633x series . The 633x series also contains SD cards with capacities of 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. The cards are intended for usage in cameras.
Lexar specifies reads of up to 95 MB/s read and writes up to 70 MB/s, which is faster than the 512 GB model from the same series. For that card, Lexar also specifies reads of up to 95 MB/s, but it’s a tad slower with maximum writes of up to 45 MB/s.
The 1 TB SD card is available right now in the United States and has a MSRP of $499.99. Nevertheless, online retailers BH and Adorama allow users to preorder the card at $399.99. Lexar states the card will also become available in Europe but hasn’t stated any further information on pricing and availability.
The Lexar Professional 633x series card with 1 TB is the first memory card with 1 TB that is actually available. Western Digital announced a 1 TB memory card two years but it’s still not actually available.
Lexar was acquired by Micron in 2006, but the company sold it to the Chinese company Longsys who has been owner of the brand since 2017.
I think with the announcement of a 1tb SD card the MicroSD can't be far behind this development. Now I can start to see a 1tb MicroSD appeal apart from the starting price.
Ehh. I mean is cool and all but probably won't be seeing a benefit to this for a year or 2 taking into account price and all that. 400gb cards are only around $100 nowadays but neat nonetheless.
