....I'll change the name if people aren't fine with it, but yeah the names are confusing. xD
Anyways didn't see a thread for this, it does kinda suck that it's Cloud only. I really hope they'll at least give us digital version for the older games. The Switch can easily handle them since 2 of them were originally PS2 games, 3D was on 3DS...and I'm assuming the CoM remake is nothing special in terms of graphics and stuff.
As for KH III, I may just stick with getting the PS4 version (or 5...if that console would stop being a myth), I don't really like streaming in general and I know people have had issues with it even when they had decent/perfect internet speeds.
Anyways, general discussion of the games on Switch, have fun.

@Anti-Matter I actually already have some of them on PS4, but having them on Switch would be nice since it's not even my PS4 and I'm not sure when I'll get my own. I also simply don't play it as much as the Switch.
I mean, with 3 at least you have a way of playing it on Switch, but yeah everything else should've been AT LEAST digital. I really hope this happens, there's no reason for them not to be.

I've always wanted to try this series, but I don't care for Final Fantasy so I'm not sure if I'd like it. So I hope it has a demo like all the other cloud games have so I can try it out. But it seems like most of the people complaining about them being cloud games either already have them on other systems or at least own those other systems, so it just seems like a waste of breath (or typing time). I, too, would prefer a non-cloud version, but as a Nintendo-only gamer I'm happy to finally have a chance to play them at all.
@Xyphon22 Yeah, not a Final Fantasy fan either, or Dragon Quest for that matter. The games do have FF cameos and references, I mean one of the characters is an optional boss and insanely hard to fight, too. You can probably guess who it is. lol
But that's pretty much it, it's more like an action RPG than the turn-based kind. No idea if the modern FF games went this route or not, never cared to look into them. xD All I know is that they went open world...whoo.
Also, I wouldn't bother worrying about the storyline either...it's a mess, I understand none of it, I just like going to different Disney worlds and fighting enemies and bosses with those characters. lol

Kinda wanna give at least some of the Kingdom Hearts games a shot sometime...but yeah, I'm disappointed that they're all the cloud versions. I was at first thinking that just KHIII would be cloud-only (the subtitles from Sakurai's Sora stream seemed to suggest that), but I looked at Nintendo's own news article (the one that said Sora's in Smash) on their website, and yep, it hit me. They're all cloud versions. I would have at least gotten 1.5 and 2.5 on Switch otherwise.
I know they're also on PC via the Epic Games store, but I never bought anything from there, so I'm kind of wondering about that. I only got PC games from Steam since that's what I'm way more familiar with.
Personally, I don't get the appeal of having cloud versions on switch. Sure, you get to play the game on switch, but it's lost a part of the appeal. You can no longer take the game out with you on the go, unless the place you're going to has constant internet, or unless you have a hotspot for your switch to connect to. It defeats the purpose of the console entirely, and you'd probably be better off buying the games on other platforms, unless you really just want to play them on a handheld.

And that's why as we are as gamers, don't ever give a chance for games developer to ditch their games into cloud gaming.
Don't ever support that BS practice.
The appeal is you get to play the game on Switch. Not everyone has multiple systems, but may have good internet (especially considering that Japan tends to endorse these and they have good internet over all). It's no different than xcloud or psnow. Some people just want to play games, the ownership/collector component is something that gets added on and assumed that every gamer feels that way. Heck I literally own all the KH games on ps4 but I'm considering the switch streaming because it's a controller I enjoy and I have a better chance to play it. Same reason I play the Yakuza series on gamepass even though I have all of the games on ps2-ps4.
Also there is the ROI, it costs money/time to port, and if you don't have a team that is familiar with the system you are porting to then you have to outsource which has its own headaches. If you are talking KH it was already mentioned that Squeenix looked at porting to switch and it was a challenge so they obviously dropped it for the easier pick. Publishers only have so much budget (not money, budget) to parse out for projects and they can't waste time on the project bleeding money to get it functional out the door, when A) not sure of projected sales return B) don't know how long/how much it will cost to get this working C) there is a easier option.
It boils back down to Good-Fast-Cheap, you can only have two.

I'm not against the idea of Cloud gaming in general, heck I subbed to Game Pass Ultimate over the summer so I could try it out on my phone/tablet, it certainly does work if you have reasonable internet. However, I think it works out much better as in a subscription model (GP & PSNow) rather than a la carte "purchases" (like what Switch is getting & Stadia).
Unlike physical/digital, there's no way to preserve or back up your own copy (it's like the fears centered around an all digital future, but much more likely). Eventually it won't be worth it to host servers for the cloud games on Switch (though probably 10-20 years out, I'll admit) & you WILL lose those games forever (maybe in a best case scenario if the games are dirt cheap in the future SE will offer "owners" digital PC copies whenever they pull the cloud versions down to make up for it, but I doubt it). Maybe it'd be worth it if the cloud versions cost considerably less for the consumer than cloud versions, but they don't. At least with the subscription model it's clear from the outset you're not "owning" anything, it's much cheaper than buying one full priced game a month, & you get access to multiple different titles.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
I think the cloud gaming is much less of a deal than everyone makes it out to be, at least the "not owning the game" part. 10-15 years down the line or whenever the server would shut down and I won't be able to play the game anymore, do you know what the odds are that I would play it if I actually owned it? Because I do. The exact same 0%. I can count on one hand the number of 15 year old games I still play not in an updated way like Switch's NSO, so eventually not being able to play it is no concern whatsoever.
@Xyphon22
I disagree. I still play the old gen games I own regularly so to me cloud gaming is a waste of money. Itās only available in certain areas due to its requirements while a port would be available to a greater audience with a larger ROI.
I feel like Cloud gaming should be more of a rental alternative or something, or for games that wouldn't be able to run on a system...
...
You know...like JUST KH III and not all of the other games! >.> lol
But yeah, since renting games is barely a thing anymore and not everyone does demos...it's a good way to try out the game before actually getting it.
I don't know, that's all I could think of. Otherwise it's just...yeah, don't bother.

Yeah the ownership argument baffles me because those people think that is the default viewpoint of gaming. Most people that play games consume and dispose of them and BC has only really been universally adopted by all 3 companies over the past decade (perhaps past 15 years) or so and gaming is an all ages endeavor and most parents donāt want a house full of barely touched electronics.
People in their ābroke young person with a jobā years tend to not horde games or consoles and in this age of online gaming/GaaS and digital distribution the mainstream obsession with physical ownership dwindles even further.
If someone had told me as a kid that PC gaming would go 99 percent digital (and the physical is still a license usually protected with DRM-barring GoG and the name is a dead giveaway that this isnāt modern thinking) I would have said that person was nuts. In another decade installs (especially since they arenāt getting smaller) will likely make way for streaming. I certainly feel that having to invest in large storage mediums and being unable to play off of the disk for ps and xbox systems is a step backwards.
I do get feeling left out when your internet is terrible as when the ps4 and xbone came out I was living in a rural area with horrible internet that made those systems nearly unplayable but those are the breaks.
For me I am happy to see the games on a Nintendo system after having been given side stories but hearing friends playing them on Sony systems (kingdom hearts came out when I was in high school so broke person years) so they were something I just didnāt think about. I would rather have some access to them on Nintendo consoles (I own the Ps4 versions) than none at all.
Quite frankly unless the Switch successor is a ps5 in a handheld (not gonna happen) this is the new norm, but it is obvious the industry is heading towards streaming/GaaS anyway. So in a way Nintendo is future proofing without bleeding money to keep the physical/graphics diehards.
I do think there needs to be a pricing scale though. Make it a service or discounted or have a large return window. Because not everyone has great internet. At the same time that depends on where the games are being hosted. Since Nintendo has not made a strong push into hosting games they likely donāt have the infrastructure to push for more than ala carte and since people are vocally against cloud games there is no reason for them to make that push.

I've always wanted to play kingdom hearts but never have as I've always felt like it's best suited for a Nintendo platform due to its art style but I out right refuse to purchase a cloud version of any game
