Topic: Just got a Switch OLED. Help me find a grip & storage case large enough for it and accessories.

Hey all! I finally got a Switch OLED (my first Switch despite collecting 18 games) and already have screen protector & memory card on the way. Next, I am pretty particular on grips and cases and am having trouble finding a good combo for the Switch OLED.

Years ago, I found a FANTASTIC grip case for my New 3DS XL. I store the 3DS with the grip attached in a camera bag that had enough room for spare camera lens. This let me put the 3DS with Grip on one side, and power cable, earbuds & game cartridge case on the other side where the lens was supposed to go. Worked perfectly despite being a bit too tall. Same with my Oculus Quest 2, I found a perfect size camera backpack that fit the Quest 2, both controllers, charger cable, power bank and a few other things with everything separated and not touching.

I am now looking for a similar setup for the Switch. Since it's considerably larger than the 3DS XL, I don't think the same type of camera storage case will work and the backpack seems too large. I also don't know what grip to get either. Hoping to get some good suggestions.

For Grips, like the Satisfye Grip but I don't like how tight it fits the Switch OLED. I also would prefer something dockable, but would tolerate the dock extension cable if there truly are no better options. I bought a Skull & Co Grip/Case combo for my nephew's Switch several years ago, but he's a little kid and I've also read they are scratching the Switch OLEDS. It just seems like the manufacturers have tried to make their grips OG/OLED compatible and that's lead to the OLED being too tight.

For Cases, the Satisfye storage case is too small. There isn't room for the charger (I emailed them), just enough for the Switch with grip and some games and a power bank. It seems like all the Switch specific cases are just big enough for just the Switch and no accessories or it's rigidly specific for what it does fit. I'd like something roomier that will fit the Switch OLED without removing the Grip.

Any suggestions on a case or grip?

Thanks!!

I ordered my switch oled carrying case off ebay a while back with winnie the pooh on it~ 🤷‍♀️ The seller is: Pluscaseshop. It was listed saying: cute disney cartoon winnie pooh nintendo switch oled case. It fits both my Nintendo Switch oled & a smidge big for my Nintendo Switch lite but more use it for my Nintendo Switch lite than oled. I don't support disney anymore but been a fan of pooh bear since the 90's as a kid~ 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️✌️ I'll try to post some pics of the carrying case~ ✌️ For me it has plenty of space. I don't see the need to carry around the charger personally. I let it charge in the morning then good to go some where then charge it at night later. I keep the charger at home. Not sure if they sell a car charger for the switch this just now made me think about that~ 🤣 Good luck on finding your case for the switch~ ✌️

I’m also looking for a good case and grip. I think I’m going to be happy with the case I motion above.

But for the grip my switch is painted https://www.colorware.com/categories.aspx?category=250 so I’d really like a clear grip. Otherwise I’ll just make do without and play with joycon grips when I can.

@Dreamliner For a long time, the Satisfye grip seemed to be the most popular for the switch. I got one and was pleased with it.

(Cant do picture from my phone?)

Hey y’all so it came in today.

Also the switch case here is from the same company as well. https://www.sfbags.com/products/nintendo-switch-cityslicker-case

So I have my

  • OLED switch in this Cityslicker listed above
  • dock
  • power cable
  • HDMI cable
  • joycon grip with two joycons attached
  • two joycons with straps
  • one SNES joycon
  • and 4 joycon straps

Everything is in its own pocket and each is padded and made of soft material so no scratches. I also totally have room for more stuff. So not made for switch but totally worth it and works great.

Forget the grip. Get these.

Mobapad M6 HD

  • HD Rumble (same linear actuators the official joycon use)
  • NFC for full amiibo support
  • six-axis gyro just as good and lag free as official joycon
  • HALL-Effect analog sticks
  • Rear mappable buttons
  • Swappable analogs
  • Swappable D-pad with rocker-style D-pad
  • Mechanical buttons using the infamous Omron Switches (and not just any Omron Switches, but Japan manufactured Omron Switches)
  • Swappable faceplates with round or octagonal gates
  • Anti-friction rings
  • Split wireless functionality working as single joycon if desired
  • System Wake
  • 15-17 Hour Battery Life
  • Turbo
  • 10 minute Macros
  • not only can you Turbo the macros and loop the macros, they even record variable analog stick input (meaning the percentage you tilt the analog stick, not just 100% tilt in the direction you pressed- only Controller to do this afaIk)
  • Ergonomic like a Steamdeck Jr
  • Makes a better Pro Controller than the official Pro Controller if you disassemble a joycon charge grip down to the middle slab
  • Honest to God the best d-pad I've ever used in my life. 6 Zangief 360° pile-drivers in a row in Ultra Street Fighter II. Never have I achieved such a feat.
  • $80, same price as official joycon despite having all the same features + a truckload more- these could've sold for $199 as "Elite Joycon" all day long
  • Has a custom fitted case that comes with them for an extra $6 on Amiami, though you can purchase from their official website, it'll just cost a bit more Their official site has them on sale with the case for $79.99 right now

https://www.mobapad.com/products/mobapad-m6-hd

Don't confuse the M6 HD with the M6 S. The M6 HD have white faceplates, while the S has the pastel colored ones you see in my pics. The M6 S is identical but without HD rumble. I just bought both and swapped their faceplates because I liked the colors.

But if you want slim and sleek, and would rather keep using the official joycon, then I'd recommend getting the Genki Forcefield for the Switch OLED. It's basically the magnetic flip case Nintendo released for the Switch Lite... but made for the OLED. And way nicer, I might add. The cover magnetically removes, and has 2 little pilot stubs that align into 2 holes on the case to ensure it always magnetically snaps on perfectly aligned.

If you get this, I'd recommend a joycon shell swap with a Basstop d-pad. Etsy vendors will sell you one and install it for you for like $20 including shipping. Send your joycon out, get em back a week later with a d-pad. I must insist on Basstop, not Extremerate. The ExtremeRates look higher quality but they're trash. The Basstop d-pad looks cheap but functionally it's incredible for a no-pivot d-pad. Better than 90% of other d-pads I've tried.

@JaxonH $79.99 is just for the controllers on the official site. Costs $96.99 with the bag although there is a Moba official store on AliExpress which has them a bit cheaper.
I've had an eye on these ever since you first mentioned them as they look great, but I've held off buying as I'm sure as soon as I do, they'll announce Switch 2 and they won't be compatible 😅

@dmcc0
Ya that would be your luck huh lol...

Switch 2 seems to be a year off though so you'd get at least that. And tbh, you'd probably still use your Switch here and there for years to come. Be nice to do so with a proper set of joycon. And lastly, I suspect joycon will be BC, at least wirelessly. Maybe not on the rails, but wirelessly. Which, these on a disassembled charge grip make the best pro controller I've ever used.

@JaxonH Yeah, I know but I guess there's also a bit of 'spouse factor' here too. Got to weight up whether the grief I'll get for buying another controller - especially one that looks a bit like my current Split Pad Pro to the untrained eye - is worth it.

Ahhh but it's all coming together... do you see it yet?

Are the wheels churning??? 😉

But whattaya mean? I didn't buy new joycon. These are the same ones I've always had, hun!

I ended up with the Skull & Co NeoGrip and Maxcase. It’s large enough for the charger and the big grips feel good.

I need need to play it more now.

Check Amazon Online if you have a account with them and check for Gripcase for OLED that way you get the options for OLED not previous versions to look at. And read the reviews so you get a idea what people think of the cases and look for those with picture of the case that will give you a better idea what to expect. Those on here are from their experiences and that doesn't mean what they advise will fit what your looking for so do look at Amazon for OLED Switch cases.

@JaxonH There's only so many times I can bust that one out before she'll get suspicious, and I've already used it recently with the Retro Fighters Dreamcast controller I bought.

Is that another new controller?

New controller...for the Dreamcast? Na, haven't been able to buy Dreamcast kit for about 20 years... 😅

Oh, ok. I thought you were playing Xbox

I could tell she was sceptical, but surprisingly didn't probe any further.. I think she'd spot a white Switch controller a mile off though because my Split Pad is dark blue and I only have the neon joycons.

I suppose I could just show her the shells and say I'm re-shelling the Split Pad so it was more like the white joycons my son has on his OLED.... 🤣 She usually just stays away if I have a screwdriver out with a controller in bits on the kitchen table.

@JaxonH Have you tried or do you know if you can use the split Mobapads as a single controller on PC? I love how you can do that on Switch, since it's way more ergonomic for my arms to split the controller, and I've been trying to look for a good controller for PC where you could do the same. The Mobapads would look like a great choice if they work with Windows/Steam.
