Topic: How to get and install new updates without internet

I am unable to connect to the internet with my Switch for today's update due to where I am living. So I am wondering how can I get the current update without the internet?

@Eel Tried that and it will take 500 and some odd minutes. Unfortunately I can't be around my Switch with my phone for that long.

No can do. You can wirelessly share software updates, but not system updates (bafflingly enough).

Does the switch do that thing where recent popular games come preloaded with recent system software updates? In that case then maybe eventually a game will have the update in the cartridge.

However the best option would be to simply find a temporary internet hotspot, maybe at a restaurant or hotel.

@TommyTendo Unfortunately My works WiFi is protected for that reason.

@Eel Thats what I was wondering. I was thinking if I got the new Kirby it would update the console as well. I remember a few games doing that on the Wii.

Could you go to a cafe and use their WiFi?
Or does the area you live in have free WiFi in the centre? That's usually quite weak though

Most if not all places like cafe don't just give out their wifi you must request login access. Go to a library and use your mobile to access their free wifi if they permit and make it a hotspot and connect your Switch to the mobile hotspot to do updates. Switch by itself doesn't have Browser to connection to wifi.

Really? Round these parts the SSID and password are usually pinned to the wall

@SwitchForce The Switch can definitely connect to WiFi that uses Browser pages as part of the login process. When collecting, the browser comes up but you won't see an address bar that can be navigated away from.
A lot of our public WiFi in my country uses Browser logins and it's never been a problem. I'd just say don't rule out places with that type of connection just in case. Hopefully you find somewhere that works

Not in cafe and department store and hospitals so unless you know the wifi login you don't get access here.

Then you haven't been to NA locations. I already done that and it requires a browser and Switch doesn't have a browser. Then that means you have a HomeBrew by default Switch can't connecto to wifi that requires a Browser.

@Eel : If the software update is required in order to play, perhaps, but most likely not, seeing as all (?) physical Switch games explicitly state that “A software update may be required to play”, which safeguards Nintendo from liability in the event that users are unable to download any required updates. Perhaps this begs further inquiry?

If memory serves, I seem to recall 3DS cartridges that included system updates, and possibly also Wii and Wii U discs, but I couldn’t name anything specifically.

@SwitchForce @alpacatears That's the main problem I am having. My Series X and PS4 can connect to the hotel's wifi via a browser but since the Switch doesn't have one I am unable to.

Looks like it seems to show something akin to a Browser but the steps is alot to just get something connected.
This is what the site says:
While it's not perfect, it is effective, and I am grateful to have a workaround to Nintendo's oversight. Just remember that this unofficial way of surfing the web can leave you open to several risks.
So this isn't official and doing so is at your own risk if you don't do it right. So just use your Mobile device as hotspot and connect it from there and or from the WiFi location you can get connected to. This isn't from Nintendo but from a site on the internet.

Most of these networks that require a browser to login should be usable.

Contrary to popular belief, the Switch does have a web browser, and it uses it for cases like these.
