@komodo182 for sure. It doesn't waste your time either as I'm sure you've noticed. Once you die you literally start right back up again. I also like how it shows weaknesses of enemies and their hp meter.
I’m getting near the 20 hour point in my FFX playthrough, Yuna’s deciding whether to marry the dude with hair for horns. I don’t think so mate.
I’m enjoying it as my first FF game so far. I really like the battle system, and because it’s broken up by fairly long cut scenes, occasional mini games I prefer to ignore, and the light puzzling bits it never becomes a grind. I always just want to get back to the battles.
It feels quite modern for a 20 year old game. The story is a bit derpy and I’m not a big fan of Tidus (silent protagonists all is forgiven!) But I like the rest of the cast and he doesn’t even feel like the lead.
It’s well paced so far. The linearity helps as a newbie to the series, I can see how it would be a minus if not. I’ll definitely want to try some other FF games now.
@Ralizah ha, yep. I kind of wish this game had just come out now because there is so much mileage in it for meme culture. The awkward staring. There was even a Macerena joke I spotted, 10/10.
@BruceCM, derpy wasn’t an insult necessarily. My current avatar is from Persona 4 after all. Similar in people being relentlessly cheerful in the face of adversity. (Except for Adachi I suppose, which is why I like him).
FFVI is still the one I want to try next in the series which from what I can gather is darker.
@komodo182 yes, definitely enjoying it on the whole so far. I’m diving back in now.
@komodo182 I found this simple question hard to answer, so sorry if this response is a bit long winded!
I admire rather than love it so far I think.
But with my favourite RPGs like Persona 3 and Earthbound the impact on me can hit as I reflect on the experience as much as playing through it. It takes a while to sink in.
For now I think it’s got a really fun battle system. And the atmosphere is both light and goofy but with an underlying sadness. Which is just my cup of tea. How much it stays with me will depend on the rest of the journey. And the impact might have been bigger if I played it when I was younger.
But I definately want to try other games in the series now.
