Topic: Error code 2002-4373 & Black Screen?

I got a Switch OLED about a month ago. Also bought an SanDisk Extreme 256GB memory card. Did all the software updates and formatted the SD Card.

So far, I’ve played a handful of demos from eShop, played Mario Odyssey (physical card) for about 25 hours and now I’ve played Zelda Breath of the Wild (physical card) for about 15 hours.

The Switch has only been in the dock once, I use it handheld and charge it when low.

I played Zelda last night, hit the home button and let it go to sleep. I left for work today and when I came back, the Switch screen was ON with just white letters saying there was an error and code 2002-4373 at the top.

I hit the power button once and it restarted itself and is working now.

What is happening and what should I do? A search shows some people thinking it’s a memory card and others think it’s a corrupt system files and it needs to be factory reset.

Any chance this is a fluke from the update a couple days ago (dunno if it was a Switch OS thing or a Zelda thing).

I just don’t want to have problems.

@Dreamliner You can plug error codes into the nintendo support site's search bar. You can find solutions or explanations for most codes. If you can't find your code, you can contact nintendo support via their contact page to ask about your code - they have a phone line & chat messenger.

Anyway, nintendo support has a page that covers a range of codes, which your code falls into.

Error Codes: 2002-4301 to 2002-4500

I don't get the feeling anything is bad or wrong with your console. If the two options on that nintendo support page don't appear relevant, I wouldn't worry about it. It may have been a random, weird one-off thing.

I've seen a common trend with people who almost never shut down their console, or regularly leave games open and use sleep mode, or exclusively use sleep mode, rather than shutting the console down. People who shut down their console tend to avoid issues. I know there's a sleep function, and you should be able to use it😉, but I can tell you I've seen a bit of trend with inexplicable codes or bugs, and the common thread amongst many people was, they rarely or never shut their console down.

If your issue keeps reoccurring, then you might have a problem, but I'm going to guess rebooting, or shutting down here and there will prevent future errors.

Yeah I'm just a bit nervous about it. I am extremely careful with my stuff and I hate seeing things like this. That said I have been playing it a lot and it goes to sleep after a minute. I don't even know how to fully shut off the Switch.

I thought for a minute it might be something wrong with the SD card and I still have 3 days left to return it and get the Nintendo one...but those are made by SanDisk too...

@Dreamliner If there was something wrong with your sd card, you probably wouldn't be able to play games, or you would have gotten an error code specific to your sd card. The console would make it very clear. So, your sd card should be fine.

As far as shutting the console down, the only way to do it is to long press of the power button on the console. For whatever reason, Nintendo doesn't give the option to shut down via the controller.

But like I said, since 2017, I have seen a small trend in here; People who exclusively use sleep mode only, and never powered down the console or rebooted, these people seemed to run into inexplicable bugs or random error codes. I think people using sleep mode every night without closing their game may be more likely to run into random error codes or freezes. But it was easily avoided if you shut the console down every night, or at least every once in a while.

Regarding known common/weird issues you may encounter with the switch:

Sometimes a switch won't wake up from sleep mode. All you have to do is a long press of the power button. If needed, a 10-12 second press of the switch power button forces the console to reboot, and solves the problem. [i](the support page now says 20 second long press, that might be a more recent update, it used to be like 10-12 seconds. But it's still a long press of the power button😅)[i]

And sometimes, on a rare occasion the switch won't display on tv when docked. The solution is weird, but simple, reset the AC adapter. (completely unplug ac adapter and dock for 30 seconds - easy peasy)
