Topic: Could the Wii U's SD card support be used for migration?...

Nintendo have made it abundantly clear that Switch is "not" a successor to Wii U - at least when it comes to supporting software and backwards compatibility. Yet with no true account system in place whereby software can be linked to multiple devices, I think Nintendo will have to come up with a solution for linking prior purchases with the new Switch hardware. If (or when) Nintendo does introduce such a service, it must surely be an entirely new offering.

For the time being then, what if a user was able to take a MicroSD card, place it inside the regular SD adapter, and use it to transfer account data from the Wii U to the Switch? This would potentially allow users who have previously purchased specific titles to be given a discount for the port on Switch. And while Nintendo haven't said a word regarding Virtual Console, who knows if these titles could be transferred.

The SD card slot just seems ideal for a situation like this. Thoughts?

Every purchase you have made through the eshop is connected to your account. Nintendo has all the information they need if they want you to redownload any titles (such as VC) to the switch.

Also, NS will use another CPU, which means that binaries can't run native on the switch. It would work like the so-called backwards compatibility on Xbox One, that is, the platform holder must recompile the games on their end.

So it is a purely political decision if they want to do it or not. And we still don't know if we will get any ports, both Kart and Splatoon might be entirely new entries. Kart definitely had new game play mechanics and Splatoon was on a never before seen map.
