I've never played a game in the Seiken Densetsu (Legend of the Holy Sword) series. So I was keen to start my experience from the beginning yesterday with Final Fantasy Adventure. Considering the tech in the Gameboy, this game is impressive. Plays great, sounds great, and actually has a solid story on offer.

However, the puzzles are very esoteric. Between weapons that grant you access to new areas, breakable walls with no indication that they can be broken a la Zelda, and floor patterns with no hint at what the pattern is. Seiken Densetsu 1 would be brutally difficult without the aid of a walkthrough. I'm a few hours in, having just beat the Dark Lord.

I feel as though I'm halfway through the game maybe. Not sure.

An early NPC tells you breakable walls make a sound when you hit them, but that never worked for me outside of the very first dungeon. Weapons do make different sounds sometimes but it doesn't seem to be tied to anything. Some later walls have indicators that they can be broken though, such as grass/torches/etc. on one side of the room.

Have fun with the palm trees.

Beat adventure a couple weeks back. It's so great for a gameboy game really. I only needed a guide for the 2nd half of the game as some things were really obscure. Nonetheless its an awesome game. I loved the breakable wall thing and eventually you get a weapon that doesnt require the use of a mattock anymore. So that part is cool.

@Magician @Tyranexx how do you both like the first game in the series thus far? Anyone using a guide to help you through it?

@NintendoByNature Unfortunately, I haven't played it yet. Hopefully sooner or later.

I'm getting this from the Misses for Christmas can't Wait. And IMO you would have to be crazy not to pick up one of the limited run physical copies as their the same price as the digital copy.

@NintendoByNature Oh yes, I've used a guide. I would have rage quit if I hadn't used one.

@Magician its definitely needed on a first play through. I didn't use on in dungeons though. Just needed it on getting to each dungeon. There's one point where you have a nuke a tree for an entrance to a dungeon. Good luck finding it without a guide. It's impossible to know where and what to do so I'm surprised people were able to figure it out back in the day.

@tyranexx at this rate you might just have to wait til after links awakening 😂

@NintendoByNature Heh, most definitely.

Good to know that it might be wise to use a guide!
