I’m doing this because I got the impression that it could use anything as a monitor and seeing as Nintendo didn’t put any tutorials on how to connect stuff, I’m coming here to ask you!
The Switch works on any hdtv or hd monitor with an hdmi port built into it. It's extremely, extremely rare if there's an hdtv that isn't compatible with the switch. I think there was one user in here from russia a few years ago that had a tv that wasn't compatible. So, I don't see any reason to worry about compatibility.
(The Switch Lite is handheld only, and it doesn't have video output hardware built into it. So, it won't even work if you put it in a dock. It actually doesn't fit in a dock, if I remember right.)
Edit: The switch only comes with an hdmi cable, if that answers your compatibility question.
@galacticpandag Nintendo support is pretty thorough, and has directions for most everything, if you search their page. You can also plug error codes into their search bar & find out what they mean.
I've had our Nintendo Switch hooked up to an old Standard Definition (SD) TV through RCA cables (with a cheap HDMI to RCA adapter). Some of the content bleeds off the screen, but IMHO totally playable. (I wanted to see if I could play some of the NES and SNES games with real raster lines. LOL.)
I've also had our Nintendo Switch hooked up to a VGA Computer Monitor through a more expensive laptop dock (USB-C to VGA Monitor out). The VGA Computer Monitor didn't have sound, but the laptop dock had a 3.5 mm audio out port that let me hook up external speakers. (I discovered this when I plugged in the Switch to the computer setup in the office to charge the Switch. It was a total shock when the Switch started up on the old VGA monitor. LOL.)
I've also tried hooking it up to the monitor in our minivan. It has an HDMI in. Although this seems pointless since its a lot easier to just use the screen on the Switch to play games while your in the car. LOL.
