I've always been interested in Pokémon but have never really tried out any of the games before. I've only played about 15 minutes of Platinum on the DS and didn't really stick with it. So I'm wondering what's the best game in the series for me to get started on?

@StarPoint Look in my opinion, just play any of em, Wile yes I have only played three, I started out with sun and moon which are kinda some on the weakest in the series, but I loved them, Pick up Sword and shield, you will have a great time!

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

Assuming that you intend to play a Pokémon game on Switch, I would recommend either Sword or Shield as you're getting the best presentation and value for your money. All main series Pokémon games are accessible enough for newcomers while having additional layers for those wanting to dig in a little deeper. If you buy the physical release, try and grab the revised edition that has the expansion pass baked into the cartridge (unfortunately this release appears to be out of print).

Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee is a retread of the very first generation games, but they're a touch too easy, underwhelming, and light on content. And Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl are also really underwhelming in terms of presentation and are quite unpolished at launch, and don't compare favourably to Sword/Shield that preceded them.

New Pokémon Snap is a great spin-off though and is accessible to non-Pokémon fans. It's pretty much an on-rails safari game and it has a lot of charm and a surprising amount of content for the style of game that it is.

You might want to hold off on those altogether and wait for Pokémon Legends Arceus in January 2022, which appears to be one of the most ambitious games that the franchise has produced in years.

You can also start with a game outside of the main series. Start with New Pokémon Snap, Pokémon Ranger or maybe Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX. When playing Pokémon Pearl after that it might stick with you.

I'd say Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are a great place to start. They're not too challenging and have a number of quality of life features that would be helpful to a newcomer. They're not particularly ambitious titles but do a good job of capturing the core spirit of Pokemon.

Otherwise Sword and Shield are great games to start with for similar reasons.
