@GyroZeppeli I take you point but the switch schedule is barren compared to the other consoles

I have the luxury of owing a PS4, Xbox one, ageing gaming pc and a switch. The switch is by far the system I play on the most due to the portability - just got the satisfye gaming grip which takes it to another level as well. I have also played some of the greatest games this gen on the switch - botw, odyssey and maybe controversially Xenoblade 2 which I thought was outstanding.

The switch however misses out on so many good games - far cry 5, assassins creed odyssey (which is amazing) and resident evil 2 which is a masterpiece. I could go on and on.

I bought the switch believing I was getting the full console experience on a handheld - to a degree that’s correct but it’s become a system bereft of a consistent flow of great gaming experiences

It's all a matter of perspective. There are loads of indies but some people don't count them as big games so they don't count. Were getting about a third of all the final fantasy games ever but some people don't see them as new so they don't count. Were getting Doom and Mortal Kombat but to some people they're not Nintendo games so they don't count. Were getting Yoshi and Animal Crossing and Luigi but to some people they're kiddy games and don't count. Wii U ports- they don't count to some.

At the moment there isn't a 3D Mario, Zelda, or Metroid open world that would make the majority of people happy., but don't tell me and my backlog there is no games.

Yeah I don't think you're really convincing anyone here. This is a Nintendo forum, the people who lurk here know what a console that's not getting any content looks like. The Switch is getting remasters of Final Fantasy games and I believe there are rumours of ports for some of the Assassin's Creed titles. In terms of Resident Evil it already has Revelations 1 & 2 (the Wii U never got 2) but also versions of RE, RE0 and RE4 are on the way (no word on 2 but if everything else is being ported it seems very likely). Then there's Doom which is on a Nintendo console for the first time since the N64/GBA. Mortal Kombat, the first time on a Nintendo console since the port of the PS2 era game on Wii. Diablo 3 and Dark Souls, the first time ever on Nintendo.

The idea that the Switch is not getting content at some kind of unprecedented level rings a bit hollow. It's probably the most supported system Nintendo has released since the SNES.

If you can say Switch has no games with a straight face, I have to question whether or not you actually enjoy video games.

The games he listed aren't that good. Resident Evil HD Remake is a good game, but Resident Evil 2 turned into a third person shooter. All of the mainstream open world games are repetitive and don't have very good game feel. With that said, I think it's silly to pretend every game that comes to the Switch is great. I remember when Sine Mora EX was one of the few physical games you could get for the Switch and people pretended it was some perfect shoot em up, when it was average at best.

Overall there are way more good games on the Switch than other consoles, but that is because the rest of the gaming industry seem to prioritize things like realism over fun. Doom 2016 was a break in this pattern and there's a sequel coming out.

To add another voice to the chorus, it almost always seems to be the case that people complain more about Nintendo missing out on things, when the reality is that every console misses out on some games.

Sure, it would be nice to have Spider-Man, but X-Box owners didn't get Spider-Man either. And PS4 doesn't get Halo, or Forza.

And neither of those systems get any of the Nintendo games or the other Switch exclusives that always get forgotten in these conversations. If you don't own a Switch, you obviously don't get Xenoblade Chronicles, or Pokemon, or Smash Bros. Those are hot titles that appeal to a lot of gamers, not just "Nintendrones". Long-time Pokefans can pooh-pooh Pokemon Let's Go as a "dumbed down title for the casual crowd" (yeah, you know who are are). But it's a popular entry in an incredibly popular series that you will never, ever, be able to play on Playstation.

And you also don't get Octopath Traveler, a highly acclaimed RPG exclusive to Switch. Or Mario+Rabbids, a top-notch strategy title. Or Civilization VI, the only main series Civ game to appear on consoles in the last three generations. And this year you won't get Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, or Daemon x Machina, or Bayonetta 3.

So yes, if you're the kind of gamer who has to play every game that comes out, the Switch alone won't satisfy you. But neither will any other system.

@JasmineDragon That's the reason why I won't hesitate to buy other consoles if they have games I really like that are difficult to be on other consoles. Having just one console isn't viable for a gamer that likes many different types of games.

@JasmineDragon In the end unless 3rd party support massively improves, having at least Switch and 1 of the others (PC/XB1/PS4) is the best option. Of course if you only have Switch now it's best to wait until Microsoft and Sony reveal their new consoles before deciding on your 2nd system.

This is honestly the best answer. With a mid-range gaming PC and a Switch, you have the most options and the most games. A PC generally gives you access to by far the cheapest formats for multiplat games, too.

@Yorumi This is true, but that’s always been the case. I honestly don’t see anyone hardcore gamer clamoring that they got the Switch/any Nintendo hardware and have no intent of playing on PC or other major consoles (unless it’s a money thing).

I dunno, I think Switch has plenty to satisfy gamers that aren't too into Western AAA titles. Personally, as someone who owns every console back to 5th gen, I find myself playing Swithc 80% of the time. I can also see Switch being the go-to console for indies and Japanese titles a few years down the line.

At least 2'8".

EvilLucario

Yeah I do not care for a big majority of Western AAA games personally. For example, I tried Witcher 3 and I was not liking the combat much. Horizon Zero Dawn's combat was also very floaty and mediocre. It doesn't help that they don't make a lot of genres I enjoy, like platformers.

On the other hand though, I'm a bigger fan of Japanese-made games like Dark Souls, Nioh, Valkyria Chronicles, Bayonetta, Vanquish, etc. Those games tickle my fancy, and more often than not they're on Switch. If they're not on Switch, more often than not they're also on PC, especially nowadays.

With the Switch overtaking both the 3DS and Vita as a haven for Japanese games, the Switch will be my primary gaming console this generation if the current supply of games keeps flowing in. And I say this as someone with an i7 8770k/1080ti/32 GB of RAM and a PS4.

Plus, portability :^]

I don't really have a primary console as such, both my XB1 and Switch complement each other. Having both really helps during massive info droughts like the past few months and ongoing.

What I mean is if you didn't have the option of picking two and could only pick one, pc, playstation, xbox, switch, there's a good reason to pick one of the first 3, especially pc. There's not a great reason to go switch only.

It depends on what kind of content you're after and what kind of gamer you are. If you simply must have access to the "gamers" game everyone is talking about? Then sure, generally I'd go Nintendo second and probably PC first. But if you're not particularly fussed about that and just want a decent range of indie titles, first party Nintendo staples and anything extra is a bonus? Then go Nintendo first.

Speaking for myself, if I had to pick between my PC and the Switch? Ignoring the fact that I need my PC for things other than gaming and the fact that I will have a PC well after the Switch is dead? I'd pick my Switch first.

@Yorumi Well, regardless of everything I said, I honestly only play on the Switch. I have a gaming PC, but in the last few years I've had very little interest in gaming on it, and next time I buy a computer it won't be gaming capable. And I don't need another console.

All I've played on PC in the past year or so was Civ 5, and now that I have Civ 6 on the Switch... no more PC gaming!

While it's true that you can't get everything on the Switch, what you can get is more than enough for me - and, I believe, probably more than enough for most average gamers. I game 3-5 nights a week, usually for at least an hour, and I've never felt like I needed more games than I could find on Switch since I bought it on launch day. My two kids also use it several times a week. We've got RPGs, platformers, strategy and 4X, racers, fighting games galore, puzzle games, building games and some weird stuff like Katamari Damacy, Gal Metal and Crypt of the Necrodancer. There's a wealth of retro titles, more indies than you can shake a stick at, and a fair number of extremely polished AA and "Nintendo AAA" games.

Maybe it's not enough for every gamer - I readily acknowledge that the Switch is weakest when it comes to AAA Western action titles, so if those are your thing the Switch is the last console you should consider buying. But it's more than enough for me and my family.

@Yorumi

Not true at all. Gun to my head and only one console to pick I’d go for a Switch every time. Zelda and Metroid over any other gaming series for me without a shadow of a doubt.

@Yorumi I was Switch only until a few months ago, and even now 90% of my gaming is on the Switch. Only real reason I got a PS4 was an overwhelming need to play KH3, (and to a lesser extent Persona 5, the DIgimon games, and Spiderman, though the first two are likely to show up on Switch at this rate)
