I'd be first in line for a (a good deal cheaper too obviously) TV console only version of the Switch 2. I mainly play in docked mode anyway! No faff scratching screens, wearing out batteries, ports and joycons breaking and drifting etc. Yes please!
Since I only play my Switch 2 Docked, I'd be all for a TV only console but it would never happen now not with all the mind-bending glug that the original Switch generated with being able to play all your games on the go I can't see that changing anytime soon for Switch 2 or it's sequel either.. (plus they'd have to think of a new name for it.. how difficult could that be?)
Ah, this brings back memories of the same thread for the Switch 1 many years ago lol
I mean, yea, the idea is fine or whatever, but it completely ruins the concept behind the Switch.
Then again, they did make the Switch Lite.
I think a docked-only variant would be much more work and entirely different manufacturing, though. The Lite was just... make a Switch but don't give it a dock.
It's baffling that neither the Switch nor its successor have had one... yet. Not everybody wants or needs its handheld capability, and a docked-only Switch 1 could have been a great (and very cheap) entry level console. More potential to steer consumers away from the competition can only be a good thing for Nintendo, no?
And with the Switch 2 being as expensive as it is, I half-expected a docked-only model to launch alongside the standard model.
While I overwhelmingly use the Switch as a handheld console, I'd love to have a docked-only model to have hooked up to the TV at all times (and also swap my sister's current Switch for such a model).
Porygon did nothing wrong.

I feel like I have seen this thread before. Anyway. Not I. I am 99% docked but I love that when I travel or my TV is available that I have the exact same access to my games. Plus with the switch, handhelds are no longer the dumping ground for lower res, modified art style games. Not to mention that those games were sometime shorter. I wonder what Fire emblem would have looked like if Nintendo had been able to go hybrid sooner and thus have all FE games on console. Awakening would have looked lovely on the Wii. I think hybrid fits Nintendo’s design direction as well. While they like power, they don’t want to go all in on the most expensive specs and I think a lot of people have this fantasy that if Nintendo would go back to pure home console they would make a PS5 type system. That isn’t sustainable for them.

Yes!
And preferably with multiple card slots.
Should be the simplest thing for them to do.
But since they did not do it for switch 1, I'm not holding my breath.
Mine will be 100% docked, feels like such a waste with the screen and battery etc.
I personally wouldn't buy this, because for me the biggest draw of the Switch/Switch 2 is the ability to play both on the telly and in handheld mode, and my playtime pretty much divided 50/50 between the two modes. If I was only interested in playing video games on the telly, I would've bought a Playstation or something.
That said, obviously it would be nice if Nintendo could introduce a purely "docked" console for all those people who want that, since they did make the Switch Lite for those who only care about handheld play. I dunno why they haven't done so already.
Docked works find for me as the Switch wasn't made to be a coffee table console. Why do people make it harder then it really is. Trying to put Switch into a Table Console is pointless as that doesn't change the graphics or video output any better then using the Switch Dock. If you want TV only get a Xbox or PS table console only. So unless you can increase power output and video for making Switch go TV table only your wasting the reason Switch and Switch 2 success on meaningless waste.
There is no way! I was just thinking about this recently. If there is a switch lite, why not a Nintendo Switch Home? I barely use handheld, and a lot of the price of the system came from the screen of the handheld and the clapping joycons and stuff. I think it would be really nice for people who just want to play Nintendo games without having to have a handheld and a docked system.
Warning: Spicy opinions like "M&Ms are overrated." may leak from this unit!
Even though I play my Switch docked most of the time, that's still only "most" and not all, and I appreciate being able to move it around in some situations.
That said, there IS a chance this could be an affordable option for those who actually don't care about handhelds.
I've wanted a tv only console since early in switch gen. I'm over the handheld aspect. I don't want more small screens in my life. I only play docked.
I loath a console built around a rechargeable battery, especially one that requires so much work to access the battery, especially with switch 2's worse access. It's anti-consumer. And Switch 2's battery life is so poor, I would have rather paid for a tv only console rather than have to shell out extra the handheld tech I don't want. And, joycons suck compared to a pro controller. I don't need joycon 2s.
Switch 2 motherboard is small enough they could literally throw it into the dock, remove the dock-gap and job done. Maybe throw in another fan or add a bigger fan and increase the clock speed of the CPU for slightly better performance too.

I 100% agree with you.. bye bye handhelds, I'm sick of squinting down at text in games or just the general inconvenience of them, something tells me they're here to stay though what with the Switch 2 zooming past 3.5 million units sold and an imminent Steam Deck 2 not to mention any future offerings from Sony and Microsoft wanting to jump on the Nintendo bandwagon.
Nope sadly don't think we'll see a Nintendo telly only console for a very long time if ever again.
@Dhaladog Yeah, every time I've seen tv-only switch brought up, I think consensus is (at least here on NL forums) that most people prefer having the handheld.

Yeah I know, the popularist vote is always going to win in the end.
