I've been big into the VR scene since 2017 and while its a growing side category of gaming I don't see it really hitting the full mainstream until Nintendo decides to venture back into virtual reality.
Ever since Nintendo dabbled with the LABO VR headset its made me dream about the possibilities of Nintendo taking full advantage of what the medium can offer.
Imagine
Mario Kart VR zooming down Moo Moo Meadows trying your best to escape a red shell right on your tail dropping a banana peel behind you in first person truly immersed in the race
or
Being Samus Aran taking full advantage of her telekinetic powers in Metroid Prime 4 with true motion controls not limited by just a standard controller.
or
Just relaxing in your Animal Crossing village spending time talking to your friends while in a cozy world decorating to your hearts content with up close and personal details that only a VR headset could give.
or
Not even thinking about the first party titles Nintendo could bring to the VR market imagine the extra Nintendoey experiences people would create just having the platform as an option, so many indie devs would probably attempt VR for the first time.
or
Already existing VR games could get Nintendo based DLC like Beat Saber maps with Nintendo music and theming or maybe Superhot VR Metroid themed stages. These might be a bit of a stretch but you get the idea.
The endless possibilities would be the perfect way to bring VR to everyone.
Just imagine the Switch not only being the best home and portable console but also bringing VR alongside it, Nintendo would have the whole gaming market under their thumb in the best way.
@Magician anyone who says this doesn't pay attention to the VR market. The PSVR2 was doomed to fail cause Sony doesn't curate or even try to sale it. They killed it on launch by making it cost more than the base system.
PSVR is a tiny almost non existent factor of the actual VR market with the Quest carrying it all. Nintendo could easily take over that whole space if they wanted to.
@GBA_Yoshi_92 I don't see why not. Though they might have to do some tweaking or add some accessibility options since they are eye straining games. I've played them with my Quest 3 and they do work pretty good though def some good games on the VB worth playing.
