Can a US online subscription be used to play an asian region (or other region) game? For example, if I have a US account and use a US online subscription, can I play asia region Mario Kart 8 online?

@CactusMan oh man thank you so much for the answer, I greatly appreciate it. I've been looking for answers the whole day and couldn't find any.

You can actually download the NES/SNES Apps from other regions if you have a user from that region on you're Switch - I currently have a UK NSO sub, but I also have a Japanese account (not subbed to NSO) for the odd exclusive and the Japanese NSO apps work just fine.

I can also attest that this is untrue.

If you have another profile on your Switch linked to a Japanese NNID, you can access the Japanese eShop, download their versions of the NES/SNES/N64 apps, and play them via your normal non-Japanese profile, provided that the user account you normally use is subscribed to NSO.

You can take advantage of Japan-exclusive game trials via this method as well (which may include games with English support).

@CactusMan Technically the app download is tied to your region though, so you'd still need to have a separate account tied to different region to be able to download it in the first place.

Hey everyone thank you for the helpful answers, I got another minor question though I hope it's okay to post it on this topic, my second question is regarding a game's online server, does it lock your server based on your account or the region of the game? For example if I buy the asian region of mario kart and play it on a US account, will it connect me to the asia netwoek because I'm playing an asia region game, or the US network?

@Kyreav Good news. Nintendo Swtich is region free. With the Switch, there are no region locked games or region locked consoles. It doesn't matter where you bought your console or the game, it will work in the console.

Nintendo also doesn't care which region you buy your Nintendo Switch Online subscription. After you purchase a subscription, you can access Nintendo Switch Online from any region for the duration of your subscription period.

**However, if you ever import a game from another region, make sure that physical game has your preferred language on it - read the box label or game's details to see which languages are on the cartridge, or are supported. Some physical games may not have all language packs on the cartridge. If a language was supported, but it wasn't included on the cartridge, the language pack will be downloaded (likely to automatically download if you check for game updates). Example: Occasionally, there have been asia/japanese released physical games that didn't have english on them.
