Well, they own Marvel too. Disney was just the distributor. Is the next Star Wars going to be done in house? I have no idea. Either way, I think they'll put together something fun. That's all I want.
TBH, I've never played any LEGO games before (other than a few demos), but that'll probably be changing soon.
I don't have much money for games right now, and LEGO games drop in price pretty quickly, so it shouldn't be too hard to find one that fit's my tastes (for 3DS).
I'll probably be aiming for LEGO Batman 2 for 3DS. LEGO Star Wars III is in consideration as well, but I heard it has some serious freezing bugs (and I believe it was released before 3rd party games started getting Club Nintendo codes), LEGO Lord of the Rings might be good too, but it's still probably a bit more expensive (as it's newer), and I have no interest in the Harry Potter or Pirates of the Caribbean versions.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
How about more completely new games? IMO Undercover is the best LEGO game so far, ad that isn't based on anything that wasn't LEGO related to begin with.
Never having played a LEGO game (or even really with LEGO blocks), I've never thought about this. But now that you mention it, I think turning LEGO would be the only way Pitfall could ever become relevant again.

For what it's worth, I played Pirates of the Caribbean without having seen the movies, and thought it was great fun. Jack Sparrow's 'walk' is priceless.
