Topic: The Unofficial TMNT Fan Thread Part 2

So years ago we had a TMNT thread where we could discuss TMNT. https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/general_discussion/the_un...

For whatever reason it's been locked (not sure why it wasn't breaking any rules) but with the new movie coming out, I figure it was a good time to bring it back. We'll as stated it was locked, so this thread is a continuation of it in sorts.

So along with the new movie apparently Nickelodeon has acquired the rights to the original 1987 cartoon series. Which means at some point they will probably be on Paramount+. However currently they are streaming the original series on Pluto TV now which is free.

As for the movie, not sure if I will see it, just the animation looks off to me and some of the voices. I have heard praise from the creator about it but honestly would have liked a Last Ronin movie instead.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the new movie or anything TMNT related?

I just took the kids to see the new movie. I've been a turtles fan since I was about 3, and this was decent. Nothing tops TMNT 1 and 2, but it was still good enough and they enjoyed it.

My gripes are the voice actors and the way the turtles looked. Pretty much only Leo looked like the original turtles. The rest looked awkward. Raph was "ok." And I'm getting tired of new turtle iterations having my favorite Donnie, having glasses. I don't know why that started in the new live action movies and continued in this movie. Mikey had braces for some reason too? That made no sense. Seth rogen as beebop didn't jive. However, John Cena as rocksteady and ice cube as superfly worked. So they werent all bad. But Mikey, Donnie, and raph all sounded terrible. It didn't really ruin the experience for me, but still stinks that new movies just can't get it right. I will say the story was good though. And It does look like there will be a sequel based on the post credits scene.

As for season 1, it's on YT now, so we actually turned it on after the movie tn.

I have been binging on the 2003 TMNT series on Paramount+ and I am really enjoying it. I remember watching it when it first debuted in 2003 watched a few episodes and hated it. I think the problem was I was comparing it to my beloved 1987 TMNT series which at that time was what I knew most about TMNT. Well I have always heard the the 2003 series was really good so I decided to try it again this time without the rose tinted glasses. I am glad I did. I can see why alot of people enjoyed it, it is alot darker then the 1987 series and inline more with the feel of the comics. I guess Peter Laird worked closer to this studio unlike with the 1987 version.

So far really glad.I gave this show another chance about mid way through season one now.

wait TMNT 2003 is on paramount? Sweet! I too grew up on the 87 TMNT cartoon and never thought i'd accept any other version but after binging the whole 2003 series a couple years ago i gotta admit it's not terrible. For one thing shredder wasn't a bumbling idiot who always ran away from a fight. He seemed like an actual threat. I did like the theme song too. The lyrics really spoke to me. "live by the code of the martial arts", Never fight unless someone else starts" etc etc.

As a child of the 80's who grew up on movies like Karate kid i always stuck to a similar mindset when it came to fighting. If a kid tried to bully me and they did quite often sadly i'd let them make the first move always. Then go miyagi on their butts! Otherwise i was like, why break board? What board do to you?

So far TMNT 2003 is the only other version of Turtles i've enjoyed. The bay produced films were awful and i haven't watched anything TMNT since.

While I agree the 2003 series is good, my favorite version of the Turtles are actually the IDW comic book series. They mix many ideas from the different iterations of the turtles and their own ideas and it’s great, I love how they used reincarnation in the origin story and how intense the Shredder and Splinter rivalry is. It’s great stuff.

@Truegamer79 Yeah I believe all versions except for the 1987 TMNT are available on Paramount+, and the 1987 version is coming here soon.

I agree that the villains do seem a more viable threat in the 2003 one compared to 1987, even Baxter Stockman seems more of a threat. As for theme song, I am not a huge fan of it. My favorite theme song would have to be the later season of the 87 series where they blanded the movie scenes with the cartoon. You can tell that they also went darker with it too.

I grew up with TMNT. The cartoon, the games, the movie. It's a property I really enjoy. TMNT TiT for SNES is one of my top twenty all-time favorite games.

I have some hope TMNT: The Last Ronin gets some tender loving care from THQ Nordic.

Black Forest Games...aren't terrible. I have hope this will be better than serviceable.

I too am hoping the Last Ronin is going to be great. I'd imagine itll be a full fledged 3d action adventure hack n slash. But we'll see.

Yeah those were called the red sky episodes. They went more serious with the tone and they started about the same time as the first movie. One thing i didn't like in the 2003 series was that the turtles didn't eat pizza. I guess they were going for a style closer to the comics which originally were darker. I actually had the very first issue at one point but sadly it got lost. The 87 cartoon made alot of kid friendly changes like the turtles talking like surfers and eating pizza.

I once saw a show on Oprah where the turtles showed up in full rubber costumes and sang cheesy rock songs like pizza power. It was a weird time but the best Era for the turtles!

@Truegamer79 That’s funny, I remember that same episode of Oprah as well. And what’s nice thanks to modern social media, I found the entire episode on YouTube.

@Truegamer79 If you ever get the chance, check Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtes. It goes into the whole history of how a dark gritty comic series became a kid friendly I.P. I could go into it now but it's a big length ordeal and the documentary can explain it better then I ever could.

Also have you ever seen Turtles Forever? If you haven't that is definitely worth a watch too.

No i don't think I've seen that one. I heard about some animated movie where the turtles meet Batman or something. Sounds kinda cool.

@Themagusx1
Oh wow the sudden flood of nostalgia! I actually used to have an old Casette tape of the songs they sang. Pizza power was good and there's this slow ballad type song that splinter even sang called skipping stones. LOL what a corny yet somehow cool album! On my 12th birthday my party was all TMNT themed. My mom bought me the Turtle sewer playset and the game TMNT 3 the manhattan project for Nes! I was one Turtle obsessed kid back then!

I went back and re-read the junior novel for "Mutant Mayhem" (I actually bought the book a week before the movie came out, I'm on a junior novel collection because mom likes it when I read more than stare at my phone whenever we take a bus, and no I didn't read the book until AFTER I saw the movie a couple of weeks later)
