This year has been a weird one. I had huge expectations for Erdtree, and definitely enjoyed it, but found myself a little burnt out on the game (I did a fresh playthrough of the base game, then straight to DLC)

My top 5 2024 releases:
1) Balatro
2) Nine Sols
3) Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
4) Tekken 8
5) Prince of Persia Lost Crown

The final round of Players' Voice is:

• Black Myth Wukong
• Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
• Genshin Impact
• Wuthering Waves
• Zenless Zone Zero

Wow, I’m not really surprised with the final games in that round. All of those seem like popular picks, but I don’t actually know what Wuthering Waves is. My guess is that Genshin is going to win because of how popular it is, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Zenless Zone Zero would win. Usually it’s Mihoyo/Hoyoverse games that win in this category.

Most of my votes have lost each round of player's voice. Now we are left with 3 mobile gacha games, 1 DLC, and one game which I guess was super popular but didn't review all that well. Speaking of reviews, Wuthering Waves is a huge 69/100 on metacritic. I may opt out of voting this round.

That said, I don't think it a bad thing if it goes to a Chinese game, at least so long as it's one of the better ones. That's just the way that the market is heading

I admit, it didn't occur to me that 4 of those 5 games are Chinese, just that 3 are gacha.

As someone very critical of these awards, got to admit, this is probably the 1st or 2nd best one of these they've done. It has more good stuff and less bad stuff than usual, and while it wasn't especially credible as an award ceremony, it was at least far more watchable and at least had some attempt at being respectable. Really helps it didn't over-rely on cg trailers for new IPs that just end up being generic live service shooter slop.

Like I'll never not make fun of the awards, because its still just inherently embarrassing to do an award show that focuses so little in giving out awards, but I'm relatively fine with it if its at least fun enough.

I was pretty bored with it, but mostly had it in the background. It started with some super long uninteresting trailers. Plus the weird probably-AI cat game 😆 The Okami 2 announcement was kind of interesting/surprising.

I'm glad Astro Bot won lots of things though. And I'm glad Final Fantasy won best music.

I don't know why they speed-run big batches of awards in seconds after insanely long ad sections.

As I expected, Nintendo didn't win a single award, but I'm very glad Astro Bot won GOTY over most of the cinematic hyperrealistic games that tend to get nominated for the TGA. Lots of cool revivals too like Virtua Fighter, Ninja Gaiden, Onimusha, and Okami.

Best Game Awards show yet. Still not perfect, a ton of trailers in the middle that dragged on but I feel happy about watching it

Didn’t watch it, but it’s cool that Astro Bot won. I’m shocked they didn’t give the award to the Elden Ring DLC given the game eligibility change they had for DLC.

Also saw some of the game announcements in the headlines, and I’m surprised that a lot of dormant game IPs are coming back, especially Okami. Very cool!

Surprisingly decent. Good reveals. I don't know what was up with that AI cat game or that goofy Naughty Dog IP.

That s.o.b Kamiya actually did it and went back to Capcom lol. Viewtiful Joe 3 doesn't seem like a dream now. But there's still one last thing he needs to do. And that is to bring Mikami back in order to give me a new:

Hype for all the franchise revivals. Could be great, could be terrible but I am glad they are getting a second chance. Also:

VIRTUA FIGHTER IS BACK (and no I am not gonna shut up about it till the game is in my hands!!!!!)
