If you've eaten shrimp or lobster, I'd assume they taste similar.

Then again, bugs are eaten in their shells and usually deep-fried and burried in seasonings... So they probably taste more like chips.

As a side note, I also can't stand seafood aside from fish.

Prehispanic mexican culture has much to do with it as well, our ancestors had a different diet wich consisted in maize, bugs and other healthy foods. Amaranth (a sort of grain) and grashoppers are very healthy, but with the arrive of the conquistadores, those were considered as savage's food and people stopped caring about those delicacies.

I know eating pork blood (this actually comes from spain) doesn't sound great neither, but it's when you start eating other than lean meat when you really start eating.

Btw, as Meowpheel said, insects and seafood are very much alike. they are close relatives, so it comes down to perspective than to what's good and bad to eat.

Oh, and yeah, not all bugs are edible.

A friend of mine said hes eaten roaches before, which we didn't get around to saying why... but he said it's bitter and juicy and makes your breath smell
LOL Another friend of mine has a pool, they pulled up part of the concrete near it, a bazillion water beetles came out and another half bazillion were squished into the dirt and didn't move unless you picked at them.

@Dankykong: Well, roaches just don't seem like an edible bug. Grasshoppers, mezcal worms and ant eggs are some of the bugs we eat in Mexico.

And that story about water beetles sounds terrifying.

While its true that the common sewer roach is not safe for human consuption, there's edible cockroaches.

I've had Crickets and meal worms a few time, and I can verify that they do just taste like chips.

Although the chocolate covered ones were somewhat chewy.

@Meowpheel: Yeah, I remember watching a show where someone made cockroaches with chocolate. Of course, the cockroaches were born in a safe enviroment or something. I'd never eat a common cockroach.

@Megumi: There's a japanese restaurant in my city that's amazing. The katsudon is my favorite.

@Freeon-Leon: Lol well ant eggs don't seem appealing in any form to me, but it's not like the others don't appear in candy already. I don't want any of it haha It may have an okay taste but you know there's always that one that's going to have a terrible taste for some reason and just ruin the whole thing for me.

LOL Mezcal seem somehow less terrible. When I think of ant eggs, I just think of when I was a kid and I'd flood the backyard and all the little nasty butts would come out holding eggs or there'd just be a gross bunch of them under the mud when the water cleared. Horrific memories of childhood
