The internet is a big place. If Sam and Jake want to join in a heated discussion about any number of extremely specific topics, they can absolutely find somewhere to do it.

You know, instead of taking "look at this video game screenshot!" as an invitation to write an essay on current politics, religion, and inequality.

I'm kinda in an awkward place considering my existence points to avatar and signature is considered political in various circles. So I guess don't inherently ban political discussion, I don't wanna get banned lol.

@Maxz one of the best things I've read today, it genuinely made me smile.

I will also have to hold my hands up as I'm a nightmare for just posting without thinking and I have an excessively warped sense of humour to boot which often doesn't go down well outside of my head.

At least online I can always delete something once I realise its inappropriate, I don't have that luxury in the real world - luckily I'm really good at my job so my "quirks" are generally overlooked and my wife is well used to me by now and learnt to ignore most of what I say years ago.

I have enjoyed this thread and have tried to behave. I'm also really disappointed that we are nearly a year away from conker season.

@kkslider5552000 Screw that. LGBT people and rights should never be "political". It's only been made political because there's an extremist group who thinks that basic human rights and respect are wrong.

And that's the problem. Said extremist party has gone and done that with all kinds of things, which should never be political. They're unhinged. All I want is for empathy and caring about people other than oneself to become valued again. To be blunt, calling that political is just making matters worse. These should not be political opinions. We are giving too much credence to extremism.

@Harmonie Well on here it generally ends up being about something like The Last Of Us 2 and if it is just being inclusive of minority groups or if it's woke propaganda to encourage sales rather than actual talk of human rights/politics like non binary being recognized, gay marriage etc.

In times like these I ask myself "What would Brie do?".

@kkslider5552000 I don't think LGBTQ+ should be used politically. I understand that in the past when certain things were illegal (here in the UK at least) that there needs to be some politics involved to make them legal. But I find it legitimately sad that right now people still have to fight to be accepted as who they are.

Everybody should have the same rights no matter what community they come from and LGBTQ+ and race shouldn't be political footballs to be thrown around. From a human rights perspective, it's sad that it still needs to be addressed and from a political perspective, it muddies the water of truly political decisions that need to be made.

I think that policies on both sides of the political spectrum would be a lot less polarising if they left race, gender and sexual orientation out of it completely. I understand it's not quite as simple as that for certain issues as change still needs to happen in some areas.

It is kinda mad that politicians can invoke deep seated love and fear for topics like gender, orientation, race and religion to get people on side and it obfuscates their true political agenda which in an ideal world would be the only thing they would discuss.

@jump that's an easy answer, Brie would turn the conversation to be all about her and thus shut down the topic - its all a persona and she isn't just an egocentric b***h, she does it so people hate her in the hope they stop having each other.

why would anyone come to a video game website to discuss politics? If it has something to do with a game, I could see that but anything beyond that is ridiculous

@jump The thing is, there were people on this very site throwing a big fit about Animal Crossing New Horizons allowing people to select by style instead of gender and letting people dress in whatever clothes they wanted.

Those same people were calling this "woke pandering". I don't like that term "woke", it is illy defined and bigots use it to describe any representation of LGBT people in anything.

@Harmonie Yeah people are buggers who don't see attempts like that are to welcome more people to the party as a good thing.

I reckon there's two ways of dealing with people like that, either try to talk to them about equality in a way they can understand like Matthew McConaughey's closing speech in A Time to Kill or cyberstalk the person to find out who they actually are and hire someone to take them out like Matthew McConaughey in Killer Joe.

I suppose there's also a third option of clicking ignore/report but I haven't seen that used in a Matthew McConaughey film yet though.

My idea of equality is to become a beetle warrior like Matthew McConaughey in Kubo and the Two Strings personally.
