@Tendo64 That's a really good way of putting it. When we were kids, buying a new game was like Christmas, it was an event. Now, I feel like I play games I'm not particularly interested in for the sake of having played the popular game at the moment. And it just diminishes their value, sentimentally, to me at least.

And yeah, subscription services probably don't help in that regard, which is why I'm a bit iffy about their growth in recent years

I want to get into the Fire Emblem series a lot more this year. I've only played Three Houses and will be playing Engage, but I want to become more familiar with the series and why it's so beloved.

Hopefully, get into the Xenoblade series as well. I've played a good few hours of Definitive Edition but haven't fully committed to it. I mainly want to get into the series because of how excellent 3 is supposed to be.

Aside from these two series, I want to be able to play shorter games for the most part. A lot of my games in 2022 were really, REALLY long. Like the longest games I've ever played. I'd like to cut back on that a bit to get some shorter experiences.

@StarPoint Might want to grab the 3DS Fire Emblems while they're still live on the eshop, then. If nothing else, Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation is going to be VERY hard to access via legal methods soon.

Currently Playing on January 13, 2026: The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy (PC)

StarPoint

@Ralizah Yeah, I may unfortunately have to access these games through not-so-legal means. I don't own a 3DS currently so my access to these games aren't ideal

I'd like to be a little better at finishing games...or at least getting as far as I can in them!
There are so many games on my radar that I'm going to have to start putting my foot down and only buy one once I've cleared another.

This year, it is my goal to play through the entirety of the first three mainline Neptunia games.

I also want to get a Switch 2 this year, hopefully early on in the year.

My top 5 favorite games:
1: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1
2: Pokémon Violet
3: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4: The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening (2019)
5: Animal Crossing New Horizons

Haven’t decided my new year gaming resolution just yet. I’ll be thinking about it.

Beat more games. lol I've been slacking hard during the last few years or so and have put the hobbie almost on stand still, aside from purchasing handfuls of titles be it on NS, PS5, PSVR2 & Quest 3. I've been chatting more about the hobbie Vs actually partaking in it, but that's changed quite a bit since last October.

I've been pushing maybe 2+ hours a night, almost every night with my NS back log. I've finished around 13 games so far, most of which fall into the NewWave/Faux Retro category. it feels soooo great to finally be back in it again. Video games do such a wonderufl job at boosting your imagination and level of wonderment, depending on the game of course. And as far as PS5 goes, Resident Evil Requiem is right around the corner, including Romeo is a Dead Man and John Carpenters Toxic Commando.

Also looking forward to the New Tomb Raider, HALO(Only if it supports DualSense Gyro, Quality Gyro that is), Pragmata, Mouse PI For Hire(Again, has to have quality gyro), Infinitesemals, ILL and Mortal Shell II. Oh man, and there's NSO Virtual Boy(Gotta have that Replica insert Shell) on the way, Yoshi & the Mysterious Book, Orbitals, Mina the Hallower, He-Man & TMOTU: Dragon Pearl of Destruction, The Duskbloods(etc). Too many good games to keep up with in this day and age. I feel like I'm in over my head juggling 3-4 different platforms.

As for NS1, I've currently anihilated >

Iron Meat
Super Cyborg
Castlevania Haunted Revisted
DOOM + DOOM II
Jim Power: The Lost Dimensions 'NES Edition'
Curse of the Moon
Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit
Shovel Knight
Mega Man 11
Rugrats: Adventure in Gameland
Tanuke Justice
Donut Dodo

Also plan on picking up Valve's new Steam Frame at launch in Q1 this year, and maybe the Steam Machine or a traditional PC with a 4090 specifically for VR. Plus, I'll be building a Retro/SD set up for 80's & 90's consoles paired with a 27" Sony WEGA CRT Trinitron, using a 'Gcomp' switcher board which allows you to hook up 8 consoles through either Composite & Component, with zero additional latency or image degradation. pretty pricey though! And you can connect another gcomp to a gcomp to gain a total of 16 connections if you wanna go all crazy Marty McFly style.

  • NES
  • SNES + Super GameBoy
  • Genesis
  • PC Engine Duo-R(Aka, TurboGrafx) with Region-Free mod
  • Saturn
  • PS1
  • N64
  • Dreamcast
  • GameCube + GameBoy Advance Player
  • Wii

Probably going to pass on XBOX, Sega CD, 32X, definitely 3DO & Jaguar, and maybe PS2 & Master System. And I'll probably score another Sony WEGA CRT, but a 32", specifically for the later SD Consoles, like DC, GCN & Wii simply because those consoles shine far less on a 27" Display.,,Can't do it. Yet 27" is the perfect size for every SD Console prior to Dreamcast imo. Unless you go 32" and sit farther back if you've got the space.

I want to deal with a decent amount of my backlog mostly. Minimal buying new games until I get a Switch 2, almost none outside of the 3 upcoming games coming to Switch I plan on getting (Mina, Rhythm Heaven. Tomodachi Life).

Just being real, I probably will not stop purchasing games and adding to my backlog haha. So my goal is to at least finish more games and start working that backlog down. I would also like to be more intentional about making more time to game. I noticed gaming at night is becoming more difficult as I start to get sleepy, I must be getting old lol

Buy and play far fewer games, and focus on other hobbies more. I'm also starting my absence from gaming news, I don't need to be up to speed on this stuff anymore. And the interesting innovations are happening in the indie scene anyway, and these websites hardly cover any of it except the celebrity "indies". It's honestly such a low signal to noise ratio I won't miss anything.

Maybe not 100% Gaming related, as in software-wise, but I'd like to upgrade my Switch 1.1 to an OLED (hopefully the Smash Bros. one) and get a CiB Smash Bros. Ultimate Special Edition I saw that has a brand-new Smash Pro Controller.
The Switch 2 is still out of the question for now.

Beyond that, hopefully I can give a chance to games I've gotten but neglected their chance such as Portal 1 and 2.

Rusty's Real Deal Baseball is now a hidden gem of the Nintendo 3DS.

Basically just finish more games. I finished quite a lot of them last year, so I want to keep it up this year as well.

Widdle down my backlog, particularly with half finished games. At the end of last year I was finally getting around to beating Tales of Vesperia and Red Dead Redemption. This year I should keep at it with Atelier Ryza, Tales of Berseria, FFXIII, DQ11, and Persona 3 Reloaded

My gaming resolutions for 2026 are:

  • To revisit/replay one or more popular titles that failed to impress me on my initial playthrough (e.g. Super Mario Odyssey, ACNH, SSBU: WoL).
  • Try to play more games in genres I don't usually play.
  • More gaming-related than expressly about gaming, I plan to use Nintendo Music for my background music while I study instead of YouTube, as ads and recommended videos are too distracting. It unfortunately means I will be listening to a much smaller pool of VGM for the most part, but it is a sacrifice that must be made to improve my general productivity.

Happy New Year, All!

Pretty much the same every year. Stop playing games that aren’t clicking with me, and dip into my backlog more. The latter will be much easier with my canceled GP subscription. I’ve already finished rise of the tomb raider and I’m currently playing through vice city. Both have been in the backlog for a couple years at least. Also keep waiting for sales. I don’t need to keep buying games at full $70 price tags
