So I bought a new laptop today since my Alienware's power supply blew which I think was cause by overheating and I needed a new vid card to be able to play Diablo III on it. Anyway when I am not out and about my laptop sits on a desk or on may lap. A friend suggested a cooling pad so I did a quick search and found like a dozen of them. So I was wondering if anyone around here can suggest some. I have seen ones with fans, ones without. Metal ones, Bamboo ones and so on.

So any suggestions would be great since I dont want this new laptop to get to hot and die out in a year or two like the last one.

Thanks in advance.

Use a cooling pad definitely. If it is on a soft surface (your lap, a seat, a duvet) the vents on the bottom get blocked and it will overheat. I couldn't say for certain that having one with a fan will definitely help, but it can't hurt it.

My laptop is like a red-hot iron rod, and it still works. However, try to set it on a flat surface like a table (not a bed/your lap). That lets it vent better. Never heard of cooling stuff, but a flat wood panel, or better yet, that cooling pad you mentioned should work even better. Chances are, my low-spec laptop won't overheat like a high-spec one can; that's probably why it's working so amazingly right now despite getting so hot.

If you get a cooling pad with a fan make sure you keep the fan well cleaned. Otherwise you are blowing dust up into the air vents which will make it worse.

Word of experience: some day soon, these words will mock you from behind the failed remains of your laptop. Get a cooling mat.
