I've been trying to find some more ds games to play but every time I look up games online I either get the games I already own (Pokemon, mario, etc) or shovel ware. So I thought I'd ask what's some of the best 3rd party offerings on the DS?

The only 3rd party game on the ds I've really played is The World ends with you which was great!

The Layton games, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor games and Radiant Historia are the best imo.

@Balta666 I really enjoyed the Final Fantasy III remake. That was the first FF game I ever played, and it still holds up well today.

I might be forgetting some, but these are the ones that first come to mind:

If you're a fan of turn based JRPGs:
Radiant Historia
Dragon Quest IV, V, VI, IX
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy III, IV
Etrian Odyssey I, II, III
Magical Starsign

If you're a fan of Strategy RPGs:
Advance Wars Days of Ruin/Dual Strike (this series is first party but lesser known)
SMT Devil Survivor I, II
Final Fantasy Tactics A2

If you're a fan of action-adventure games:
Rune Factory 3 (also a farming sim game)
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
Okamiden
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia
Contact

If you're a fan of visual novel/puzzle games
999
Professor Layton trilogy
Phoenix Wright trilogy
Ghost Trick
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Trace Memory

From that whole lot, I'd highly recommend 999. Radiant Historia would also be a top pick, but there's a remake on the 3DS so if if have a 3DS you should get that version instead. Rune Factory 3 is also an amazing game if you don't mind the niche genre.

@CFarris419 Is III hard? I've heard its really hard so I've been a bit intimidated to try it.

Sonic Rush and Dementium II are my favorite third party games currently. I've also really enjoyed Moon, Pac-Pix, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Okamiden, Final Fantasy III, Lost in Blue, Dementium and GTA: Chinatown Wars. There's a fair amount that I've gotten but haven't played, like the Ace Attorney games, the other two Castlevania games and Solatorobo, that I'm sure I would mention in the future.

@MorningRain It can be at times, but really it just requires a bit of grinding to progress. I don't personally mind that.

I'll add a few more that i know of, even when some of em aren't considered "The Greatest" everyone should check them out for themselves before judging them.

Resident Evil Deadly Silence is an amazing Port and well worth checking out if you get the Chance.

Children of Mana is kind of a Dungeon Crawler but its still an amazing game, especially if you have someone to play it with (needs 2 copies for coop thou)

Heroes of Mana i loved when it came out (which i probably was the only one) and it has a good story too, many people just hated the Stylus controls i guess.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Ring of Fates / Echoes of Time Id recommend Echoes over Ring since i have more experience with it but im sure Ring is just as good as Echoes.

Final Fantasy The 4 Heroes of Light is something you should check out After you played all the other FF games on DS its considered the worst one but its still a decent experience.

Enchanted Folk & the School of Wizardry is an Animal Crossing like, quite expensive thou.

Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals is a decent remake of the SNES game, even when they changed the story a bit at the End its still a decent game nonetheless.

Legacy of Ys Book 1&2 Amazing games, even thou you could just play them on almost anything at this point this Remake / Port is still great.

Chrono Trigger has a port on DS so maybe you want to check it out if you didnt play the SNES one (or PC)

Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded is similar to the PS2 game (the First one) so id recommend that over 358/2 but both should be OK.

Final Fantasy Fables Chocobo Tales

Phantasy Star Zero

Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume

Magical Michael Pang

Tao's Adventure Curse of the Demon Seal

Deep Labyrinth

Dungeon Maker

Lost Magic

Luminous Arc 1 / 2

From the Abyss

Theres also a few Bomberman Games but i can't Speak for those.

Someday, somewhere in the Sky...
may we meet again.
