I'm really enjoying the story thus far, and I like that it's actually adding some depth to Layton's character-; that maybe he's not the always-respectable man he thinks himself to be. The second game had my favorite over all story, but if this one delivers on its initial promise it could easily surpass it.

I just finished the game today, and I must say that the Unwound Future is my favorite game in the series. I enjoyed getting a glimpse into Layton's past, and the ending had me in tears. I can't wait for the next one!

@LaytonAprentice I heard October/November for NA, but that was awhile ago. I'm hoping they localize, it, though! If nothing else for the animation!
I'm still not sold on this being the best one. I'm on the 9th chapter, about 11 hours in. The architecture is incredible and the character designs are the best they've ever been, but I'm not getting into the story as much as I thought I would--which is weird because on paper it's all quite interesting. The second one was simply a masterpiece, in my eyes. Everything just clicked for me. Maybe it's the visuals...atmospherically this one just feels a bit too similar to the first game.

Maybe it's the mystery itself. The second one was brilliant, because for all its twists and turns it still all focused on one central mystery--what exactly is the Diabolical Box?
This one really isn't a mystery at all--save future London from the future version of Layton isn't really a mystery, even if there are many smaller mysteries in the process. What turned him evil (though it seems pretty obvious at this juncture)? What's up with the scientists? What's with all the talking animals all of the sudden? Are we really in the future to begin with? All good mysteries, but none of them really tie into one central theme that brings it all home. I think that's what's doing me in.

Which isn't to say I'm not enjoying the game, mind you.

So far I noticed it's heavier on the story than the other two. Very interesting mystery

Crying forever

This one definitely had the best overall story. And the puzzles weren't as frustrating as some of the ones in the previous games. They're getting easier... or I'm getting smarter.

When does game #4 come out?

You can bet it comes out September 2011.

MetalMario

but it showed Professor Layton as a launch title for 3DS. It was the Japanese video but maybe they were working on two at once!

Finished the story the other day, definitely the best of the three. The ending is amazing; i'd like to comment on some specifics of it, but want to avoid spoilers for those who haven't played it or finished it yet.

@WaveBoy
Just so you know, while you don't need to play the first two to understand anything in the third game, some of the minor characters were introduced in the earlier games, so their conversations will be a little more meaningful if you've played the others first.

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.
