Is it possible for the dsi's camaras to record videos in an update or does it lack the hardware because i dont think camaras used for photos could start recording videos just by being updated without extra hardware.

@yoshdude I'm pretty sure those were just animations of the pictures they took.

I'm back with a shiny new 3DS, yay!

But isn't that what video is is the first place?

What warioware snapped does is it takes pics of you in funny spots and then plays each pic in like a gif to make it look like a video. You could see gifs at giftube.com with your dsi but thats nothing like video.

i think gifs use alot of memory and gifs suck after a while.
Flipnote studio lets you save your animations as gifs so thats what gifs are.

Probably not due to the DSi's limited memory space. An update might allow you to save directly on the SD card, but I don't know if that's gonna happen anytime soon

That dosent have to do with memory because like a photo you could just put the video you just recorded to your sd card.

@yendi: the DSi has to have enough memory to store it in the first place. You just don't make a video and save it on the card as you're making it

Videos take up a LOT more space than photos

@iz2009

Then how come on a cell phone you get the option to record using your sd cards memory or internal memory.

with a 32MB sd card you could record about 30 minutes of video so 1gb will be hours of video.I dont think you need internal memory.

If you're really desperate to record a video on your DSi here's what you do:
Step 1:Take hundreds of photos of what you trying to record, one after the other, as fast as you can, from the same postition.
Step 2:Import each picture into a page in Flipnote Studio. Make sure you do it in order.
Step 3:Using the record background music function recreate the audio of what you were recording as best you can.
Step 4:Set the speed to around about 6 or 7.
Step 5: Enjoy your time-consuming, pain-staking, 30 second-long video!

The outer camera has better quality pictures thzn the inner camera, so you might be able to record video, but the microphone is on the inner part of th dsi so sound would be terrible. Also, i'm not too sure if the dsi can capture pictures quickly enough to create a video with good enough quality to actually flow, and not be choppy. So, personally, i think it would be a bad idea.

Nintendo won't let you record videos because then they would have to allow access directly to the SD card which they won't do cause they are scared hackers.

Security > use factor for Nintendo.

@Hardy83 Couldn't they temporarily store the video in the system and then put it on the SD card like how the photo channel works?

They could, but with the storable memory on the DSi being a whopping 100 some MB (the 256MB appears to be partitioned where part of it is only for the photos, OS, Memos etc etc) so these videos would have to be a very very low quality.

On my old tablet there was an unofficial hack to record video with a similar camera, but there was never an offical video camera because it would be too buggy (use up battery, cpu, be low quality, et cetera.) And it's a lot more work to officially support than saying, "sorry, not possible."
