The other day my wife was reading one of those not-so-intellectual books called The Dog who Came in From the Cold about a dog who becomes a Russian spy. Suddenly she says to me, "Wasn't 'morphic resonance' in 999?" There is a chapter in the book all about morphic resonance and Rupert Sheldrake, complete with an experiment about sparrows opening milk bottles throughout history that "proves" the morphic field. I didn't know anything in that game was actually real.

Yeah, a lot of concepts within 999 did not originate within the game itself. Ever read Kurt Vonnegut's book Cat's Cradle? That's where ice-9 came from. Also, hexadecimal is used in some types of programming (for some reason). That's the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Exactly.
