Yeah it does. That's the new look of the 3DS series. However I'm perfectly fine with it as long as those gorgous cutscenes are intact and the world looks better in motion than just stills.
FF6: Release year- 1994 Kefka's birthday - November 9th So.... my life is practically mirroring Kefka? Cool.
The hint coin system is diff too, for the better. No more random tapping, you hold the stylus down. It changes colors to alert you to treasure, hint coins, and a new feature where you can zoom in on a portion of the scenery for a better view. Also, this game visits the old Layton in his college days. 3d afro!

I'd like to let all of you know that the series may be coming to an end, but it's been said that spinoffs can be expected.
EDIT: Sorry that the link isn't working. Copy and pasting it in the address bar should work however.
If you want to know more about this thing, check out the latest Nintendo Power's awesome feature on it. It delivers all of the info you need to know under the guise of teaching you "how to be a gentleman."
As far as background designs, I prefer the EU box art. However, overall I prefer the NA version better. I also agree with @19Robb92 about the EU box art being a little cluttered.
I'm extremely excited for this title. And a new puzzle everyday for a year after release? It's worth every penny at that point (not to say it wasn't to begin with).

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the NA eShop has 3D screenshots of the game. I have only played Curious Village so far, and I plan to play the others soon, but I am not liking the new game's art style.
@Ecto-1 You dare to insult a gentelman?
Just joking, going to check those out now.

Hehe, of course not Professor! What I meant by that statement was, even though I have only played the first one so far, I really liked and have become accustomed to the 2D hand drawn images throughout the game, and the 3D polygon based art style just isn't as appealing to me. It also seems odd that Level 5 doesn't appear to be sticking to just one art style for this game; the gameplay appears to use the new 3D art style while the animated sequences retain the look of the older games. It just looks a bit jarring to me. Regardless, once I have worked my way through the rest of the series, I will pick this one up.
I'm not very keen on the art style compared to the original hand drawn looks. I had hoped for something more like the Layton VS Wright looks. But hey, at least we're getting Layton at all.
I also prefer the EU box art, as usual, in every way. The only time the EU box art hasn't been my favorite was for The Curious Village.
