I want to buy a handheld Nintendo system to relive some memories. What is the best buy? GB, Lite, 3DS? I like some games on the 3DS so if there are GB games in the eShop that will be my go to.

It depends on what games you're interested in. If you buy a Switch you'll be able to buy Neo Geo and some 8 bit arcade games, plus some other classic games. Well, you also have several collections: Namco Museum, Mega Man Legacy Collection, Capcom Beat'em Up Bundle, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection or very soon Sega Mega Drive Classics, all available on Switch but not 3DS.

But if you're interested in a Virtual Console with Game Boy through SNES games then yes, buy a 3DS. Well, a New 3DS, otherwise you won't be able to play SNES Games, just GB, GBC and NES if I'm not mistaken.

If you like NDS & GBA games, buy NDS Lite.
If you like NDS & 3DS, buy Old 3DS XL / New 2DS XL / New 3DS XL.

@Anti-Matter Welcome back! And well, I understood he wanted to know about retro games in general, so 3DS has its strong points and Switch too. But I'd recommend anyone interested in a 3DS to buy New 3DS, because old 3DS owners can't play SNES games.

Also, New 3DS XL model has louder sounds than Older 3DS XL.
One more thing i found from NDS Lite.
If you connect NDS Lite with portable loud speaker by Aux cable, the sounds will be louder enough to enjoy GBA games on NDS Lite.

@Anti-Matter And you can see them with a bright screen, because many people don't have the GBA SP backlit model.

@antoniosamuel The New 3DS/New 2DS has access to a decent selection of Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear, NES, and SNES titles, as well as being able to play pretty much all NDS games, so it's your best bet for an all-in-one retro gaming handheld.

I would have suggested GBA SP as the best model for GB (can play all GB, GBC and GBA games), but I have two (my original SP1 and a used SP2) and they have both suffered from intermittent power issues (random turning off), even when plugged in. I've heard others having that issue. I remember buying a few batteries from Nintendo when they still sold them and it didn't improve, so I don't know if simply the rechargable batteries getting old was the problem or not.

@antoniosamuel One of the community rules is we cannot discuss jail breaking/hacking current gen systems. Ask Google for that.
