Hi, I realized that I have no space on my 2GB SD card, which came with the 3DS since i got it used. Thing is, its filled with music, and my laptop wont recognize it. However, thats not the problem, I wanna know whether a 8GB or 16GB would be better for doing updates and stuff. Also, when I get the new SD card, whatever space it holds, will I have to update Pokemon X-Y again, the system, and all the other stuff? Thanks!
do you buy a lot of eshop games? If you do you obviously need more space, if you dont then maybe you can get away with a smaller card... I personally would go for the 16GB to make sure that you have the most space available for your budget. (if your only choices are 8GB or 16GB).
The one thing you dont want to do is buy a smaller card, then run out of space, and have to keep several cards on you. They can get lost etc... Buy enough to make sure that you will never have to upgrade. Since 3ds allows you to buy a card from any manufacturer, the prices are super cheap.
I bought a 64GB SD card for my 3DS but this was before i found out that the games you buy on eshop will be lost if you lost the system... so now i avoid eshop like a plague and buy physical. Had i known this i prolly wouldnt have bought the 64GB card. Lots of empty space on it now...
Thanks for responding! I'll check out the E-Shop first to see if there's anything cool, if I find something I'll go with 16GB. Are the downloadable games big space-wise??
Some Retail downloadable games can take a bit over 3GB
only Resident Evil:Revelations(AWESOME game) but there's a bunch of games that take over 2GB so if you get a lot of retail downloads it'll be enough to fill it up if you stay with minor dowload only titles you can put musics in your SD card too
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

depends on the games you get... the new zelda takes up like 685 mb.... so the 16GB would be able to fit like 20-23 zelda games on it. But like others said, games can be larger... either way i think your top limit would be 20-23 games with that card. likely less if you download larger games.
I'd recommend getting a 32gig one, if you like using multimedia on the 3DS. Music can take up a ton of space, so can videos. I have a few videos I converted for my 3DS, love watching them on it when out for coffee. It is possible to fit a lot of games on a 16 gig, so if you only play games then that's your best bet.
As for copying, you can copy/paste through a computer, just need one that can read/write the SD cards without reformatting them. Copy the contents, without modifying the Nintendo folders, to the new SD card and you're good to go.
Friend list is full, I will be clearing room for Bravely Default soon though. Colors! 3D Gallery, My Blog

So something like only doing update wouldn't take alot, thats good! And maybe I'll go with 32GB for the sake of downloading some games on the e-shop. Thanks a bunch guys!
