I want to hear from all of the mature 3DS owners. I'm 45 and a father of two who really enjoys gaming. I use my 3DS at night when I'm relaxing talking with my wife. Currently I'm only playing Mario Kart 7, but would be interested in some suggestions on games.

Being married and a Dad, you need an escape. I know for the most part the 3ds is a kids system, but I'm willing to bet their are a lot of adults who enjoy it as much as i do.
I know a lot of older people with 3DS consoles. I don't really see it as just a kids' system. I'm 24 and I love it. One of my cousins and I are trying to convince my 71 year old grandmother to buy one because she is missing out on a bunch of Mario games.
What kind of games do you like? RPGs are pretty relaxing to play, and you get a lot of playtime per dollar. Etrian Odyssey IV is a nice RPG, regardless of your experience with them before. If you want games with a bit more action happening on the screen, Kid Icarus Uprising is a great game. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate as well, especially if you enjoy long and challenging games
It really isn't a kids' system, which is great - a lot of the games for 3DS can be enjoyed by everyone, which makes it just as much for adults. Mario Kart 7 is definitely a great way to unwind; I'd also suggest some games like Animal Crossing: New Leaf (addictive and very fun) and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (easily the best action-adventure game on the platform in my opinion). Etrian Odyssey Untold is a really interesting title as well, I've been playing an awful lot of that recently. There are two great Mario platformers, Super Mario 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros. 2, both of which are worth checking out. Star Fox 64 3D is a lot of fun too, and Pilotwings Resort is surprisingly relaxing, maybe because of the scenery. I could go on, honestly, but I won't.
A lot of it depends on the genres you enjoy and the series you've played previously, but even so, there are a huge number of games that can pull you into the series really easily, like Etrian Odyssey Untold or Fire Emblem: Awakening. There are tons of awesome games on Nintendo eShop as well.
I never played any RPG's but I want to try some. I heard Monster Hunter is really good and might pick it up and check it out. I want to find a game for my wife to play because her job is really stressful. I like my 3ds because I can lay in bed and just chill and not have to go in the man cave to play my console. It's a shame that some people believe that you can't enjoy a 3DS and not be a parent or a spouse. My motto is you have to grow up, but not old.

nice motto! and for Monster Hunter wait for MH4U if you can(it won't have the fearsome hated clunky underwater battles from MH3U)

If you're gonna try some RPGs, Etrian Odyssey IV is my favorite on the system, and I've heard SMT IV and Bravely Default are supposed to be good. Fire Emblem Awakening is pretty overrated in my opinion, they stripped away a lot of stuff and the great sprites, yet is the most accomplished entry in the series. It's probably a good starting-point if you're new to RPGs, though.
EO Untold isn't worth it, if you ask me. It's a remake of the original for the DS, but with a lucklaster story mode. Might wanna pick up the original for the DS instead, it's cheaper, too. Since the entries in the EO series don't have anything to do with each other, I recommend starting with IV, which is a bit more forgiving than the original
MH is good, the start is horribly slow, but it gets great after that.
I'm close to 30. I own a 3ds, that I got for Christmas 2, & 1/2 years ago. I've been on College campuses, & have Streetpassed with college kids, in particular, a guy, & a girl on the same campus, & got new Super Mario 3d Land data. I've also passed an elderly gentleman that owns Mario Kart 7. I get StrPs often, & sometimes judging by when my 3ds light flashes green, I can tell I have StreetPassed someone close to my age. Other times, I can tell they aren't my age, but younger. The 3ds is excellent, when you can't access a console.
Edit: By the way, my thinking is that it is ok to be a kid at heart, as long as it doesn't negatively affect areas of your life.
What kind of things does your wife like? If she wants a really relaxing game, then Animal Crossing: New Leaf might be good for her. You fish, catch bugs, collect clothes/music/furniture, help out the animal villagers, and fund various public work projects since you're the mayor. It's based on real time so there's no need to rush with anything. As for Monster Hunter, if you're fond of playing online, I would wait until MH4 gets localized in the West, which I believe will be sometime in 2015.
I don't see why he should not get 3U. Underwater isn't really bad at all, and there's like 5/60 monsters in the game that requires you to be underwater to fight them
Hmm, I'm not sure about puzzle games that are online for the 3DS. I don't play many online games. If she likes puzzles and online isn't a requirement for her, then maybe the Professor Layton series?
I don't know how much time you want to spend per gaming session, but if you want to get the fullest out of MH you must be willing to play arounnd 60 to 90 minutes per session. Especially as you progress more preperations are needed and you'll be busy a long time before starting the actual hunt. Also, the most fun part is playing the multiplayer, even though it's still great on your own. I'd suggest trying also trying Braverly Default, Legends of the Titan or Mario & Luigi Dream Team. If you want to play some games in small bursts Luigi's Mansion is also a good one, every level was designed to take around 20 to 30 minutes. Then there's SMT of course, but if you're into strategy I suggest you pick up Tom Clancy's Shadow Wars. It can be picked up very cheap and honestly it's my favorite portable strategy after Advance Wars: Dual Strike.
When it comes to puzzle games I'd try Super Little Acorns and Push- and Fallblox on the eShop, as well as Phoenix Wright which is a great game to play together. Crimson Shroud might also be something for you.
