Anyone pick this up? Its not great is it. Lots of grinding, in a shmup, which is weird. Didn't realise it was all short missions when I bought it. Just really wanted another shmup to play. Really should've done some research first haha.

Care to elaborate?! I'm quite interested in getting it because I have good memories of Milestone's Karous on Dreamcast, but the awful NintendoLife review doesn't mention anything interesting like length of the missions, size of the hitbox, inclusion of a caravan mode or at least how the game differs from the original Karous or other classic shmups. A mission-based shmup sounds rather original though, doesn't it?!

Hi! This is my first post on this forum, is there any Karous players here? I'm stuck in four missions that I don't understand the requirements:

*Mission 3-9 Criminal Crucible : Receive 20 pieces of mail
What "pieces of mail" are and what is the way to obtain them?

*Mission 3-12 Tug-of-War at the Mining Island? : ???
No mission description, only my ship on the screen, no enemies or scrolling... I really don't know what to do to complete this one

*Mission 3-15 Void at the Bottom : Break the hidden box
What is the hidden box and where can I find it?

*Mission 3-16 Barracks : Defeat the enemy and break the hidden box
There's a lot of enemies in this mission, which one I have to kill?

I can't find help on Internet, even on gamefaqs boards, I contacted the publisher but he can't help me and suggest me to ask here, I hope you guys could help me!

@mickeybender: I don't have the game, but from a user on the gamefaqs.com board, it seems the hidden box is actually an invisible box placed somewhere in the stage. All credit goes to him, this is what he writes:

"For hidden boxes I pretty much fired blindly (while moving or stationary) and waited to see my score tick up quite quickly. When it does tick up (if it's a stationary box), park there while firing and it eventually reveals itself. For moving targets you ned to fly around and see what location you're at when your score ticks up. The box eventually reveals itself."

"So i did a bit of digging and found a blog someone in Japan was awesome enough to make that logged their playthrough of the game and found out a bit more about how to beat stage 3-16, if that helps anyone.
You need to destroy a certain amount of enemies before the hidden box can be broken (I was an idiot and thought it'd just show itself if you shot in the right place since that's how it worked before). Anyway, i equipped the destructive bomb and fired that off a lot while using the wave slash attack. Once enough enemies are downed, there should be a few small whit pixels in the upper right corner of the screen on the landmass there. Shooting that should reveal the hidden box, which can only be damaged with bombs. Completing mission 3-16 does in fact reward you with the blue paint."

the same user also mentions a japanese blog with his step-by-step log, but you either need to know japanese or use an online translator: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/handgaon2/folder/1095294.html?m=lc&a...

EDIT: oops I've just realized you already mentioned the gamefaqs board as being unhelpful - sorry for having kept your hopes up!
I'll leave the text where it is just in case though

EDIT2: here's the google translation from the guy's blog regarding stage 3-12 - doesn't make sense to me but maybe it will to you:

Yeh I believe this has been posted.

Thank you very much! Miiverse was very helpful since a member has posted tips and screenshots with hidden boxes positions.

3-12 and 3-16 are completed now, I'll try 3-15 later but it should be OK too, thanks to the Miiverse screenshots.

Unfortunately I can't find tips for the 3-9 mission, I really don't know what "pieces of mail" are and the way to obtain them! I'll ask on the Miiverse and will tell you if I get an answer.

This game is great!

I haven't played the Dreamcast version unfortunately. Not actually had this on much since my original post (life getting in the way). As you've probably noticed the missions are very short. Like under 2 minutes. Not sure how many missions there are in total. Anyone? Hitbox seems a bit larger than in more recent bullet hell shooters I'd say. Game also feels quite slow but you do get upgrades to make your ship faster. I'm gonna have to go play some more of this right now aint I...

Game has 101 missions in total.
Gameplay is interesting. Several weapons (shoot, sword, bomb, shield) with different status you can upgrade. The sword makes the gameplay little more complex than usual since its attacks can have different effects such as cancelling enemies' bullets in front of you (very useful against bosses)
It's a nice niche shmup and it's cheap. Spent about 30 hours on it and I don't regret it.
