Has anyone played this game and if so what are your impressions? I have been a huge fan of the HM series since the days of the SNES so I was wondering how does this one compare to the other games in the HM series. I tried looking for a review for it here on NL but I didnt see one. I am thinking of picking it up here in the next few days but I wanted to hear what you guys thought about it if you have played it.

Huge HM fan. I'm about halfway through the first summer. At first, it didn't feel like HM. I was doing too much foraging and cooking; not enough farming. But when the second season rolled around, it all changed. Now it feels much more like HM, and I can't put it down.
Warning. ... If you haven't heard, the U.S. 3DS version is plagued by lag and freezes. Natsume recommends closing out of the game after every second or third day and shutting off the 3DS before resuming. I've done that, and I haven't had a single freeze. I've also avoided the petting mini-game, which causes freezes. Lag is a minor annoyance if you have a fully planted field. It doesn't bother me much, but some people really get aggravated by it.
Worth noting is that the game keeps things slow. Upgrades are very slow to arrive. I happen to like that. The longer I can play without unlocking everything, the happier I am. But some people feel otherwise.
I'm a fan of Harvest Moon so I'll pick it up soon. Can't wait to play it @Burning_Spear Do you know if the UK (or EU) version suffer from the same problems.
@TwilightPoint A couple of days ago I read that EU users haven't reported the problems that the NA users have. We may still hear something.
Here's my 2 cents: If you have a DS and a 3DS and are trying to decide which version to buy, get the 3DS version. ... provided that you're not the type who gets frustrated by the most minor thing. If having to stop playing after every second or third day is a bother, get the DS version. I have both, and I'm so glad I went with the 3DS version. It would have been nice to play this on my DSi XL, but the 3DS XL is coming out soon anyway.
Is there any difference between the 3DS and DS versions besides the 3D effect and the glitches? I ask this cause I dont play games in 3D due to the 3D effect gives me migraines. If there is no difference I think I would get the DS version to avoid the glitches.

I've played since FoMT.
I love how they changed the affectioj system so you can have dates and stuff now instead of giving them like 1 bucket of milk a day.
Can't wait for RF4, though. Farming is boring the crap out of me.

There is no substantive difference. You can exchange items via Street Pass. There's also an animal-petting mini-game that lets you rapdily increase your animals' affection. And the upper-screen view has been widened — not stretched, but actually a broader view — to take advantage of the 3DS' wide-screen mode. That's basically it.
The last time I played Harvest Moon it was one of the DS ones and I think I was playing for about 50 hours straight (that was pretty crazy) so if I was limited to only playing a couple of in game days things wouldn't go down too well.
Not to worry though, I don't plan on buying this.
I am a huge fan of the Harvest Moon series. And while this was a neat port, the constant freezing was an issue for me. I traded it in and am currently waiting for Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning since it's a game made specifically for the 3DS.
You're blinded by romance, you're blinded by science...
Your condition is critically grave...but don't expect mercy from such an alliance..
Suspicion of tradition's so new wave!
i just avoid the freezing issue by doing what @burning_spear suggests.
HM: AToTT does involve a lot more of what i would call grinding, what with running 2 farms, the harvesting from the trail, the number of quests that require fishing etc. the days aren't long enough to accomplish everything.
got a copy of Rune Factory 2 (my original was lost) and i'm enjoying the less stressful concepts of it. even fighting monsters is easier than all i try to do in AToTT, lol.
i am going to pre-order HM: A New Beginning from natsume to get that lovely, ginormous cow.
