The video released as of this morning looks fantastic, but I'm still not sold on the Batman video games since they started the Arkham series. Mainly because it seems like a hype machine and when I played Arkham Asylum at a friends place it was okay if not a tad boring. I will wait to see more videos on Blackgate before I pass judgment, though.

The Arkham series has been pretty good so far. But I'm not too sure about the whole 2.5D perspective. The whole fun of the other Arkham games was the explorative nature of looking through buildings and searching different areas to get to the location you need to. But this feels too linear... Go right and a bit of left... Complete.
However Metroid and Castlevania did a brilliant job even with the 2.5D perspective... But I'm not sold on the whole concept for a Batman game but that's just me. But I'm definitely waiting for some reviews before I pick it up.

How much did you play? And what part? It is one of those games where the first level is meh, but most of the rest gets better and better. I wasn't sold on it at first either, now I'm quite fond of it. It's not my favorite metroidvania by a long shot, but it's the best one in quite a while.
I don't think this game was distributed accordingly, I've been in 2 Walmart's and a Target over the last couple of days and have yet to come across it. Does the publisher not care about this game or something?

I bought Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition and I thought that it was just going to be a boring Batman 3D Platformer where you run around in different levels fighting bad guys. I played on Hard Mode and didn't know what I was getting into. It took me about a million tries to get through the intro with Catwoman. I eventually began playing and I was shocked with how good the game was while I was a couple hours in the game. I was lost and depended on waypoints to get me around but I memorized the map, completed EVERY SINGLE riddler puzzle and even went for the DLC!
Anyway, I was looking at the Nintendo Eshop and noticed that, in the description, it said that Blackgate took place AFTER the console versions. I thought that it was an alternative. I hope that it's really good, because I'm not sure how the masterpiece of the 3D Batman Arkham games could work out in 2.5D. I'd try to get both if that's the case, but I still have to get $45 to get my Batman Arkham Origins which is already waiting for me at Gamestop on a pre-order. :/

While Arkham Asylum is fun, Arkham City is really a much better game (Though I'm not sure the story really makes much sense...). There is a lot more to explore, more/better gadgets to use, and most importantly the combat system is perfected. Having played City before asylum, I have to say the the combat in the first game just felt flat, and kinda repetitive. I'd recommend giving City a try even if you didn't like the first game.
Looked at some reviews on various websites for the 3DS version and its not looking good. They mostly say that the game is incredibly short and that the controls don't always work properly. I'll wait for NLs review to come up since I generally agree with their verdict on games. But so far I'm not impressed with these reviews.
Even heard that the home console version is buggy and laggy. I think it was a bad idea for WB to take over full control of the game as it doesn't look like they did a great job on it at all.
They Liked: They said that while the combat is understandably more limited (due to the sidescrolling nature of the game), they converted the battle system really well to the style. Despite the new style, there is still a lot of exploration to be had, with lots of brain teasing puzzles & stealth segments to break up the action. The gadgets themselves are as fun as ever to use.
They Disliked: The story. They mentioned it was impressive that it's fully voice acted, but it's clear that the story here is pretty throwaway. The detective mode is fun for the most part, but you can't interact with anything until you use it, meaning you're forced to use it, even when you've already figured out the solution. The map, while usable, isn't ideal.

Just because it is sidescrolling doesn't mean the combat has to be limited. (At least compared to the console Batman games that are pretty limited anyway.)
Stuff like Viewtiful Joe or Guardian Heroes has deeper combat than any of the Rocksteady Batman games. (Dunno I will even play the new one until it is dirt cheap).

CGR Undertow wasn't particularly impressed with it.
They said that the 2.5D "Metroidvania" style exploration is a neat, and a good idea to try and bring the series to a portable play style, but it directly contrasts with the series' trademark combat, which was obviously designed with a full range of 3D movement in mind. They said this is compounded even further by the fact that stealth is almost non existent in this game (unlike it's console brethren), meaning the watered down combat's repetitiveness sets in pretty early.
They said that by far the coolest part of the game is the comic book style story scenes, and it would have been cool to see them utilize that art style for the in game graphics, but unfortunately, the in game graphical design goes for the less interesting realistic look of the console games (this is particularly disappointing on 3DS, since it doesn't do realistic graphics well, looking all muddy).
In the end, they said that inbetween the conflicting gameplay & graphical elements, the game doesn't know whether or not it wants to be a stripped down version of the console games, or be it's own thing, and is worse off for it.

I am currently play this game and the truth is it's a little bit dissapointment. It's not a bad game or something but quality bar was set too high by previous Batman games. There are some things I really don't like but I will summarize my impressions later once I complete it. So far after 5 hours I completed 53% but I do lots of exploration.
