I guess this is just more hypothetical if NoA, for some bizarre reason, -isn't- bringing the standard n3ds(or as well, who the heck knows...), but had to ask since I didn't see a thread about this.(if there is one, feel free to rid of this)
I mean the 2DS doesn't have a CPP attachment if you wanted one anyways, and obviously not including the other upgrades. It would make a lot of sense, too, if they really do just keep the 2DS and XL as the (main) focus in NA.
I know I personally would forgive them somewhat if they released one, as I prefer to game on the 2DS anyways, and a 'new' one would definitely be on my radar.
They've managed to sell the regular (though the transparent 'crystal' ones) for $99, with some game bundles for the others at the initial $129, so if they can sell the n3ds/XL for the same price the originals were at, they could likely get within that same range of the og 2DS(heck, maybe even slightly less since the -new specifically- 3D would be absent again).
ETA: Heck, that may even persuade me to pick up that...thing called an XL(if the wait for a standard is nonexistent still) at some point, if only because I've been curious about the super stable 3D; I'd just have the 2DS as my main handheld.
The 2ds is inferior hardware by nature, the plastic is cheap, the system is far to small (hence it's target to kids), and everything just feels so flimsy.
I would much prefer the Standard model simply for the exchangeable faceplates.
I'm not saying I wouldn't want a standard(as I'm not interested in a XL for the foreseeable future with the standard out of the pic anyways), but that it would make sense if they really wanted to focus on the 2DS and XL models.
Even without the new 3D, the other upgrades would greatly benefit the 2DS, because they could still hit that low price they'd obviously want to keep with (new) 3D still absent.
Besides, imo, the 2DS design is far superior anyways (bar 3D ofc) because I do not like the clamshell design, it is way more comfortable to hold, etc.
(Would be nice if the 'new' 2DS had a changeable back 'faceplate' thing as well, but one can dream, right?)
It would make the 2DS more expensive, and the 2DS exists to offer a cheaper, simpler and sturdier version of the 3DS, so I don't think they will anytime soon. Maybe some time next year.
It is possible. However unlikely. If any region would get one it would be NA since we are only getting the XL. But I don't think the demand is there. the 3ds will burn out your eyes mob has disbanded.

If the New 3DS sold just as well as the 3DS did (or better) then it would be a possibility. However, I don't think that is likely to happen. The New 3DS is not a new generation it is just an updated model, which means plenty of people will be able to play the newly released games they want without having to upgrade. So I don't think it will happen.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
All of these revisions should tell you something. Nintendo is trying to increase sales, since the end of the system's life is near at hand. I fully expect to see the new handheld before the end of the year, from Japan. Reveal this year in Japan only, release in early-mid 2016 in Japan. That's 5 years on the market. Nintendo is gearing up for the next generation. Why do you think you haven't heard anything about any kind of Mario platformer? The next one will be on the next-gen handheld.

Making a more expensive version of the cheaper options seems counter intuitive imo.
@ both of these posts...
Yet they were able to hit $199 for the new XL? That was(and still is for some OG XL's) the price point before and they managed to squeeze all these upgrades into that?
Stuff gets cheaper to build with time, so I don't see how a new 2DS(without the enhanced 3D at that) would somehow magically cost more than the current, old model? ...

I know this isn't a new gen, but these upgrades seem quite the step up, so it feels a bit odd/silly for them to put in this much effort for something like this to only stick around for, say, a year.
I could see it being true if they don't announce something by the end of the year, but...I can still see some of your point nonetheless.
It'd just be a shame that they wouldn't allow 2DS users(who they are apparently focusing on as well) to experience what's left of this handheld gen that won't be possible on the current model, even if not too much.

I'm not going to argue completely against this, but what was the point of putting this much effort into a remodel this time, only to have it replaced in the blink of an eye? It's all up in the air really, but you don't think they could be trying to extend the handheld's time until they are ready with the U's successor as well?(just other speculation I've seen around that could make some sense)
