Topic: 3DS hinge kind of loose?

It feels like the hinge is kind of loose and it could have been made better. Almost feels like it could easily break. Anyone get the same feeling?

I think it does have a slightly looser feel but I believe that is actually a design plus. I'm no expert but I think the DS lite, and to some extent, DSi, had hinge snapping problems because of the tightness of their hinges. So on the contrary, your 3DS is actually LESS likely to break because of the loose hinge

Nintendo stated that this is intentional. If the hinge were firm, it would result in cracking being easier. Although if it really bothers you, you could buy a case for the 3DS that eliminates the looseness.

Yeah I just worry about the hinge breaking or something. I have a slight case of OCD I think It seems like I spend a minute or two opening and closing the top screen. You know how it goes back 2 lengths. I was really just pushing it back and forth. Now it makes a squeaking noise. I know I really should not have been doing that. lol

Do any of you know the interior design on the top screen? I mean how the 3D works i know it is two images, but is it all in the top screen. By this I mean can any damage be done to it from the hinge.

I don't believe damage to the hinge can affect the 3D imagery. The only way that would happen is if power was just cut off from the top. All the magic of the 3D is in the parallax barrier screen over the standard LCD screen that directs the correct images to the correct eyes.

I just bought mine today, and my hinge is very tight. Even when I apply pressure, it doesn't move at all. I think you probably have a defective unit.

Confused.

Here's a better one for ya. I now have a scratch on my screen from the bottom screen. You know how the top screen overlaps because its wide screen. Well i always get a line on both side of the screen i have to wipe off every time i open it up except now its starting to scratch the top screen on the far left. Its barely noticeable but i fear it will get worse over time. Why the top screen comes in contact at all with anything is beyond me. But when you shut it it rests on the frame of the bottom screen. Might just be mine but i will send it in if it gets any worse.

In the Nintendo tech support forums, they clearly state that a little bit of wiggle is intentional (at least for the DSi). As bboy2970 said, the DS Lite had lots of problems with the casing around the hinges snapping due to the hinge being too tight, and since then they have used looser hinges to avoid this problem.

I assume it's the same for the 3DS.

A loose hinge will NOT affect the screen unless the top screen is folding back past the second open position (and even then it's unlikely). A ribbon cable passes up through the hinge to the top screen, and if this gets bent then you might have problems.

In short: I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

yeah, its loose. and its annoying the heck of me.
and like Tech101 said, it leaves marks ! it shouldnt touch anything when closed... making those annoying protectors essential.
