Topic: 3D Classics Series: "3DSWare" or VC?

I'll say that they're undoubtedly "3DSWare", for 5 reasons:

1). They've never been filed under the "Virtual Console" tab in the eShop (like all the VC games are).

2). They are filed under the "3D Games" tab (like most other "3DSWare" titles).

3). Perhaps the most telling of my points, while VC games are labelled with their system of origin (Game Boy, Game Boy Color, ect), the 3D Classics series are labelled as Downloadable Game (like every other "3DSWare" title).

4). Every VC game is an unchanged, exact port of the game as it was originally released in a particular region (sans multiplayer features 3DS can't emulate, or Nintendo doesn't want to try to), while the 3D Classics games are completely reworked rereleases (some based on another region's version, changed difficulty, altered graphics, and all have the addition of the stereoscopic 3D itself).

5). The 3D Classics series doesn't appear to be running on any emulator, so lacks any sort of VC features such as restore points, or save states (where the game will save when you shut it off).

this seems like a trivial discussion.

EDIT: (although for the sake of staying on topic, I'll say they're 3dsware.)

Eh, I figured we're on a Nintendo forum, so it's something to do

Anyhow, I notice some people include them in their list of "3DSWare" games, while others list them in their list of 3DS VC games, so I was just curious as to what the consensus of the NL community is, & what their arguments are.

They're definitely "3DSWare" because they're under the "3DSWare" category in the eshop.

But I do understand the confusion, because these 3D Classics games are retro, so shouldn't they be classified as "VC"?

Currently playing: Rhythm Heaven, Minecraft (XBLA), Pokemon B/W 2, Halo 4, The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave, Fallblox, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GCN)

Will be playing soon: Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Cave Story +, Wii U: NSMBU, Nintendo Land, (And lots more!)

They definitely go under 3DSWare. They're essentially remakes of classic titles. I mean, you wouldn't count Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as anything other than a 3DS game even though it's practically the same thing (a graphical 3D update of a classic title).

I put them in their own folder.

They're enhanced ports made for the 3DS download service. Not just emulations.

I put them in the same folder as other download 3DS games (or "3DSWare" if you want). But I put them on their own part of the folder (like I do with the different virtual consoles).

I would say they are a mixure of the two like a crossbreed between Virtual Console and 3DSWare because they are all old games that were released earlier on a different system and they have that same game but have added features and flair that 3DSWare tends to have which also takes out the restore point usage. that is how i settle my arguement is the are a mixture of the two.

Now for something completely different!

Why is everyone saying they put them in a seperate folder/are a mixture?

They either are, or they're not. If they were officially a 3rd category, they would most likely have their own tab in the eShop. As it stands now, they're in the "3D Games" folder, and labelled as Download Game in the eShop (Nintendo seems to be associating them with games like Pushmo, MSF!, ect., instead of the VC games, in the eShop).

@RR529 they acctually do have a tab in the eshop called 3D Classics but the games themselves say downloadable game

What region are you in?

In the U.S., we have:

  • 3D Games (where the 3D Classics are located)
  • Virtual Console
  • Best Sellers
  • Editor's Picks
  • Coming Soon
  • Applications
  • whatever new games that are featured, and the random catagories that are changed each week
