Former Nintendo employees Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang have stated that a 2021 Saturday Night Live skit involving Elon Musk dressed as Wario "was not received well" by Nintendo.

This comes via the duo's latest YouTube video in which they dive into SNL's recent skit exploring the upcoming launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI in November. When pondering over what Nintendo might think of the skit, they recalled the company's reaction to the Musk video, during which the pair were still employed.

Krysta: "They did not like the Elon Musk 2021, that... So we were still there at Nintendo for that. That did not go over well."

Kit:
"Yeah that one that was not, uh, beloved."

Krysta:
"No, that was not received well at Nintendo."

Kit:
"That was out of left field. There was no actual Nintendo product that it was connected to. It was kind of out of left field, like, why is Elon Musk as Wario? Some of the stuff was getting into subject matter that was uncomfortable for Nintendo."

You only need watch the video to understand why Nintendo might not have been thrilled at the skit. Keep in mind that this is before Elon Musk himself became significantly controversial for, y'know... all of the stuff he's done and said over the past few years.

Instead, with the video delving into topic like murder, drug use, and blatant sexual references, it's clear that these aren't subjects that Nintendo wants associated with its characters. It's a company that likes to have firm control of its messaging, so when another entity goes off in a completely different direction, it probably won't be best pleased.

Kit and Krysta do, however, think that Nintendo will be a bit more welcoming of the most recent SNL skit covering Ocarina of Time and GTA VI. They praised SNL's knowledge of the games in question along with the costume for Link, which was worn by comedian Mikey Day in the scene.
