Gamescom ONL brought us a pretty sweet trailer to kick off the festivities with Worms: Galactic Tactics.

Developed by Absolutely games and published by Team17, this is a fresh take on Worms that shifts the action to a more traditional tactics-based approach (in case that wasn't abundantly clear from the title) with a few roguelike elements thrown in. There's no release date for it yet, but it's been confirmed for the Switch 2.

Curiously, the trailer also ends with a brief tease for another project, seemingly just titled Worms. There's very little to go on here, so we're not sure what it could be. Are we looking at a remake of the original? A total reboot? Not sure.

Whatever it is, we're hoping for a back-to-basics Worms game. The last 'proper' one we got was Worms W.M.D. back in 2017 (first published on other platforms in 2016). Still, we're keeping an open mind about Galactic Tactics! We love a good tactics game, so hopefully this one is worth checking out.

Here are the key features:

  • A fresh tactical roguelike take on Worms
  • Battle across fully destructible 3D arenas
  • Combine movement, weapons and utilities in flexible, strategic turns
  • Modify your arsenal with powerful and increasingly bombastic upgrades
  • Fight your way through a series of devious gauntlets
  • Face specialist enemy classes and champion bosses
  • Wield classic Worms weapons alongside destructive new additions like the Beambow, Meteor Sheep and Die-napple!
  • Customise your squad with dozens of hats, voicebanks and gravestones

What do you think the mysterious tease could be? And what are you thoughts on Galactic Tactics? Let us know.
