Reminder: Unlock A Special Fire Emblem Engage Theme In Tetris 99 This Weekend

Tetris 99 hasn’t had a themed thing like this for how long? And then they randomly drop an Engage collab. Surprisingly, the music selection from engage actually fits the game a bit! I don’t play this personally, but rejoice that these events have returned! Metroid Prime Remastered collab next would be phenomenal

Looks like I'll finally boot up my Switch for some gameplay after a while. Right now I'm only using it to add funds for the past eShops. And then this happens all of the sudden on the last weekend they're active for purchases.

I know there's probably no connection, but I find it funny.

...What's the offline stuff like with this game? I tried this back when it first released and...I simply didn't like it. I literally had a game where I only lasted the first few seconds. Honestly had a similar experience with Pac-Man 99.

sighs I miss Super Mario Bros. 35...only royale game where I felt skill mattered way more than luck compared to the other games, and of course it's the one that's taken down.

Love these events, I've been playing this game since launch and am trying to get the 999 tickets collect badge.

@MikeJones Yeah, the "99" games just felt like they were mostly luck-based...but Mario Bros. 35...it felt more like...my deaths were my actual fault and not random. I actually enjoyed it because I never died the first few seconds of a game. lol

@sonicmeerkat That took me over a year of playing almost every day; with the Tetris 99 cartridge, I doubled the daily challenges available. The upshot is that my Tetris game significantly improved. Even won a few games in the standard battle royale mode.

Ive still never won a single round and Ive played a ton lol, best was 6th

Haven't played this game in a long time, but I'll definitely log back on for this.

@BASEDSAKRI I’ve gotten #1 once or twice, but that was in the beginning when all of us were less experienced. Now, it is a challenge to just reach the top 10.

Getting #1 in Mario 35 felt easier, because you only had to outlast 34 opponents, not 98.

Fire Emblem Engage theme. I liked this one. Good idea. To unlock? Fun for players to unlock. If there is something to do in a game, that is fun from games.

I'm glad we got a reminder here, I've got all the themes so far so I'd be gutted if I missed one.

We need a event to bring back the past events. that wasn't included in the previous past event I am still missing #20 & #22. Kirby & Marioparty. Not sure how i missed them.

@Joeynator3000 LOL, what? Tetris 99 is not luck based. If you are good at Tetris, you should be able to finish in the top 20 consistently, even at the height of its popularity. I booted it up last week for the first time in months, after 1 attempt to get the rust off, I got 3rd on the second try.

I'll give you Pac-Man is a LITTLE luck based, but again, with skill gets you a top 20 consistently.

Still waiting on them to put up past themes for sale that I missed...

I've gotten #1 multiple times. You need to be good at Tetris though, to reach it. You have to move quickly and make a lot of T-spins and 4-liners. Also you need to manage who you target. And don't go for KO's. (Which will make you a target) Until at least the top 10.

I often just target a single player and play the waiting game (not sending them a lot of Garbage) until the top 50, then I go for Attackers until the top 15-20, and then either badges or KO's. You won't be attacked a lot like this, and you should make it into the top 10 more easily. Then it's just making as many 4 liners as possible (they're a bit easier to do than T-spins)

This way I usually end up in the top 5, then it's just trying to beat the others with whatever means possible. And then I finish second or first.

Speaking of Fire Emblem Three Houses.. apparently that theme can be unlocked for 1 ticket right now in case you missed out on it. It must a special occasion cause of the event for Engage theme for this weekend.

@Burning_Spear Yeah, I couldn’t get on with this theme at all. I’m not sure if it’s the background or all the busy symbols on the blocks. All I can say for sure is I won’t ever be using it after unlocking it! 😅

@BulkSlash I can say the same thing: I've played all the events to achieve a complete collection of themes, but there are merely a few I ever use. For most, I find the backdrops too hazy, busy or light, to the point at which I have difficulty seeing the gaps in my stack or appreciating the ghost image of the falling block.

I was never able to get into Tetris 99. I always had a much better time playing Pac-Man 99. I can never win on these games though. I have gotten to the number two spot many times, but I can never seem to get the win. I kind of wish Pac-Man 99 had something like this.
