Update [Thu 6th Oct, 2022 09:40 BST]: It appears that developer Apsyr has unfortunately missed the Q3 2022 release window communicated earlier this year, as detailed in the below article.
Some fans are, understandably, wondering where the DLC content is and Aspyr has yet to provide an updated timeframe at the time of writing.
Hopefully we'll get some more information soon!
Original Article [Wed 15th Jun, 2022 06:05 BST]:
As you might recall, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords will be receiving free post-launch content in the near future - adding the restored Sith Lords DLC.
It will include a collection of content featuring new dialogue and interactions, a bonus mission starring HK-47, and a new revamped ending. Now in a recent update, Aspyr has narrowed down the release to Q3 2022.
Aspyr has also clarified how exactly the DLC will work in a series of tweets - explaining how base game saves will not be compatible with the restored DLC. Here it is in full:
"base game save files will not be compatible with The Sith Lords Restored Content DLC, but you can access any previous save files by disabling the DLC content in the in-game main menu"
It elaborated on how base game save files would still be accessible after the DLC releases, but new playthroughs will require players to enable the DLC beforehand.
"You will need to start a new game with the DLC content enabled to access the additional content, however after the DLC releases and you still wish to finish your non-DLC playthrough, you can access those base game save files by disabling the DLC in the in-game main menu"
KOTOR II was released last week for the Nintendo Switch, and you can read more about it in our full Nintendo Life review, or watch our view review:

Really only makes my decision to wait smart. Why would I buy and play it now if the save won't be compatible?
Still wish they'd get both of these out physically as a box set. If only i had jumped on that when the first was available through limited run games. Now i gotta go digital only and that sucks for collectors who want the real thing.
Sounds like Aspyr is doing a Good job porting games to the Switch. 😬
After all it is Aspyr. 😏
At least they told us. Still better than some publishers who make port, give it 1 patch and then forget about the game (game is updated every 2 weeks also with added content, changed mechanisms, etc.).
Yeah, I'll wait until the game is fully updated before buying it again, then.
hm... a revamped ending? i think this is not what is included in the fan made cut content released on PC
@BlackenedHalo It has already been confirmed that it is. It is the restored content mod.
I applaud them bringing these brilliant games to switch but i will 100% hold off till Q3 to get this one now. Bit of a strange release decision if the saves wont be compatible, perhaps they should have delayed it. Oh well, I'll get it when the times right.
So lovely of Aspyr to clarify this after the game's launch... Good job I haven't started it yet.
@Jey887 really? I hope it is much better optimized than the original PC version as the restored content mod runs really bad
@BlackenedHalo According to the Nintendolife review it still has performance problems unfortunately. I've never played this one so going to pick it up when the DLC launches.
If it isn't compatible with the base game then is it even dlc or an entirely new game? That's not a joke, I'm serious. They aren't ADDING this to the game you currently own if you have to start over with a new save file, that's starting a new game.
If you haven't played the game yet and are waiting for the new free dlc you are still waiting for a new game, no?
@Scrubicius wish Feral would do more too, alien isolation and grid were stunning
Did they add a cheat menu to the game like the first KOTOR?
I have a feeling they will polish things up a bit more as well. Also very excited to see this revamped ending. The original KOTOR II ending always felt abrupt to me.
To anyone who started already and is committed, the good news is this game has a decent replay value. If you picked a female jedi guardian character and went light side, try picking a male jedi counselor character and going dark side. You’ll get a different experience with some different party members too.
@Truegamer79 I bought the first KOTOR via Limited Run and it has yet to arrive :/ You are doubly smart for waiting.
so...why didn't they say this before I got halfway through the game?
@AG_Awesome yep its there
Isn't it ridiculous that games are constantly released when they're not ready? If base save files won't work, delay the release so the new DLC will function correctly.
@Mando44646 Excellent!! Thank you for verification.
@rjejr Yeah it sounds kinda convoluted. Either you don't care and miss out on the DLC or you either start completely over or just wait? 🤔
This is like putting your Wario Land II cart in a gameboy color after playing it on am original gameboy! Almost lol
Had a feeling this would be the case, so I held off. Glad I did.
@Olliemar28 yeah. A bit peeved it's not on there yet. Just found this out after purchasing. Glad I didn't put too much time into it yet.
His name is HK-47 as in Hunter Killer 47
