Visco Corporation's 1999 Neo Geo title Ganryu is getting a sequel, and it's coming to Nintendo Switch this April.
Publisher PixelHeart has teamed up with development studios Storybird Studio and Just for Games to create Ganryu 2, which arrives on Switch (as well as PS4, Xbox One and Steam) on April 22nd.
Described as "a true sequel to the arcade game Ganryu released over 20 years ago, Ganryu 2 features fast-paced action in beautiful pixel-art environments at the heart of its gameplay", the game will be getting both a digital and physical release on Switch and PS4.
"Collectors will also have the opportunity to get their hands on a limited edition on these same consoles, with a different cover, a certificate of authenticity, a numbered sticker as well as a mysterious bonus to be revealed soon", says PixelHeart.
Furthermore, a limited edition with "unique keyart and some goodies" will be available only from the PixelHeart store, with 1000 units for Nintendo Switch and 1000 units for PlayStation 4.

This looks great! Loved the Neo Geo games back in the day, I'm going to pick this up!
Never played the first one, but this looks awesome.
I never had a Neo Geo because it was so expensive. I will probably pick this up when it comes out for the Switch. Looks fun.
I'm looking forward to the reviews for this. I'm not familiar with the original but from what I've read, it didn't review too well at the time. This sequel looks quite promising though.
This is probably going to expose my age but what is Ganryu? The name sounds so familiar yet I just cannot for the life of me remember what it is.
Wow, that looks amazing! I'll definitely check this out.
That's, what, the third previously unreleased Neo Geo title available on Switch?
I love this!
Neo Geo was an arcade favorite of mine growing up (you could find one at nearly every laundromat in Los Angeles County), and the Switch definitely gave me a renewed appreciation of the old MVS (by way of the digital re-releases) ❤
Nice, good that this is coming, hopefully they give us the original soon too.
That looks like a very nice game, hope it has good gameplay to match!
The first game I only played on an emulator (oooh evil me) and it's an allright game not horrible but not on Metal Slug levels.
Old news but I am super excited for this one. Will likely get day one.
@Fizza Hm... Maybe it's because of sumo-wrestler Ganryū from Tekken series?
Ganryu is a good Ninja Gaiden clone on the Neo Geo with awesome graphics. This sequel might have good gameplay, but its graphics look like a mobile game.
Anyone looking for a Ninja Gaiden clone on the Switch should play Cyber Shadow and Oniken first. Both are excellent!
Loving that Pixel Heart are doing sequels to dormant Neo Geo franchises (Andre Dunos II should be out soon too). Long may it continue! As long as they're good, obv.
@Fizza
Don't worry first one is an extremely unknown game, it was released only in Japan in 1999 and wasn't even ported to the home version of neo geo console.
I've always liked Visco corporation who were the devs for first game, they made Breakers 1& revenge (fighting game) and both Vasara games (shmups) both Neo Geo games.
Oddly enough they always lagged behind graphically for some odd reason, well compared to other NeoGeo games at least, but definitely made it up in charm.
@OldManHermit Basically no one did, the only ones who know about the existence of this game is through emulation as it almost didn't get released.
I happen to like the original Ganryu so I’ll need a very informed review of this game
Looks pretty good. And it's always nice to see long-dormant franchises get revived.
I was wondering why wasn’t the first game released to consoles as part of the Arcade Archives ?
