The second update for Pokémon Legends: Arceus is now live on the Nintendo Switch. It bumps the latest entry in the series up to Version 1.0.2.
This small patch, which shouldn't take very long to download, includes a number of fixes to further improve the overall game experience. Nintendo has shared the full patch notes over on its official support page:
Ver. 1.0.2 (Released February 8, 2022)
- Fixed an issue where, while offline, the screen could freeze after trying to pick up a lost satchel by throwing out a ball that contains a Pokémon.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes made it difficult to catch Cherrim.
- Fixed an issue where a certain event would not occur during a particular Mission, preventing the scenario from proceeding as intended.
- Fixed an issue where players could obtain certain Pokémon twice instead of once only as intended, prohibiting the player from obtaining other certain Pokémon. The relevant Pokémon will appear for players who were unable to catch those certain Pokémon due to this issue.
If you haven't played this title yet, what are you waiting for? This new Switch release has already shifted 6.5 million copies worldwide. We also praised this entry in our review - noting how it was one of the best Pokémon games ever made.

I’m wondering if the game will get an expansion like sword and shield
Huh, I wonder what the script changes were. Hopefully not some kind of censorship.
Cherrim was like the 3rd to last quest I had left. Couldn't find an evolved one and it took forever to find a Cherubi, evolve it, and fill out it's dex for the quest to complete.
@Nintendude78 wouldnt be suprised, id totally be down for something like that
Yeah, I actually have noticed a small change, since updating, when I load into the game, the switch starts making a noise,
I think its saying, it wants.......It wants!.....HO-Oh's! The totally legit cereal that is perfect before you set out on a quest!
Ho-oh's feature's a nice smooth crunch, and a Flavor that you just wish would stick around (just like a abra), But don't worry, because at just for the low price of 20 Shiny's, they can be yours!
Note: *Ho-oh's inc. is not responsible for any different rainbow (Redacted) you may have, and is not guaranteed to have a ho-oh feather.
Wow this update ruined my game ):
@LexKitteh I’m afraid the references to extreme human-on-Probopass copulation have been removed.
@nessisonett @LexKitteh
It’s PC (Probopass copulation) gone mad!
@Nintendude78 Supposedly data miners found room for some kind of expansion.
3 more bug fixes confirmed, cool.
they've released a bunch of domesticated cherrims into the wild
@Nintendude78 Most definitely. Would be a huge missed opportunity if they didnt, and when it was rated it was mentioned about in-game transactions, hinting to future DLC.
@neufel Good for them.
I'm pretty sure I had the Cherrim bug. It changed form while I was battling it and it would not stay in a ball even at red health.
@Lexkitteh
You're all good, no such changes exist.
@Arcamenel Yeah, if it changed form at all it became impossible to catch. Only way to catch it before the patch was to fight it at night so it didn't transform.
@Nintendude78 I'll be salty if not
I think this is what they meant by "an issue that sometimes made it difficult to catch Cherrim".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS4pTPL8O14
My guess is that it changing form mid-battle messed up the catch rate or something.
Stop harassing bug pokemon, they're already perfect
Don't download it! It patches the shiny pokemon exploit!
@semolous I don't understand why you need it, shiny hunting is incredibly easy in this game. I've gotten 15 so far and like 10 of them were just random.
Fixed an issue where players could obtain certain Pokémon twice instead of once only as intended, prohibiting the player from obtaining other certain Pokémon. The relevant Pokémon will appear for players who were unable to catch those certain Pokémon due to this issue.
A very cloak and dagger description, anybody know what it refers to?
"Fixed an issue that sometimes made it difficult to catch Cherrim."
Will this make that request easier?
I wish this update fixed the game crash bug from when selecting/starting from the Icepeak Camp from the main Hisui hub map.
Will give this a spin later. I know it wasn't mentioned in the patch notes, but I've been having issues walking in a straight line. They keep breaking their sprint and slowing to a walk over and over.
I'm pretty sure this is tied to changing the settings to increase the motion control settings (from 0 to 1) Put it back on 0, and they would walk just fine in one steady sprint.
Its a shame because the motion controls make aiming so much easier. Hoping they can patch this so I can have it both ways
Edit: nope! Still happening
now it just needs a resolution bump
Ha! I actually got that exact Cherrim bug in the Coronet Highlands, drove me insane. Threw like 20 Poké Balls, then all my great balls, then, like, 10 ultra balls on that level ~20 Cherrim with like 3 HP left. It got out every time. I swear to god ...It's real, alright. Have the capture. Had to reload my save before I lost my mind over it. Absolutely hilarious.
Edit: I'm exaggerating for dramatic effect, obviously.
I’m enjoying this more than sword and shield.
@Desrever I think this is happening to me too! Never realized it was because I enabled motion controls which for me make the game better
@LexKitteh this isnt Sony. Nintendo hasnt censor recent games for their consoles and haven't for a while now
@Red_Silurian the lake guardians.
Still hoping to get some kind of co-op mode in DLC. One thing that I loved about SWSH was the max raid battles as those kept me coming back to the point where I have sunk over 150 hours into the game
@Moonlessky While I am sorry to hear its happening to you too, I am slightly relieved that its not an issue with my Pro Controller
This is the best...
- Fixed an issue that sometimes made it difficult to catch Cherrim.
yeah.....
- Fixed an issue where players could obtain certain Pokémon twice instead of once only as intended, prohibiting the player from obtaining other certain Pokémon. The relevant Pokémon will appear for players who were unable to catch those certain Pokémon due to this issue.
Guess this gets rid of youtube duplication shinny....
I would buy a DLC expansion for this game. Best Pokemon game ever in my opinion.
Sadly what I'm waiting for is the money to buy it 😟
@Snatcher ………not sure if I should report this as spam or not lol
@tedwards75 definitely not spam.
@popey1980 Get the mClassic for your Switch in docked mode. Works wonders.
I think this is the most fun I've had with pokemon since Gold/Silver.
I hope we see a Legends 2 or that they continue this gameplay of alphas and free-aiming, tossing etc. You know what I mean.
I am guess they got some DLC aka BOTW DLC and then possible a PLA2 coming out with more parts of Japan island as the Pokémon expansion play areas.
did this remove shiny farming?
Shame there is nothing here that addresses the performance issues in game.
The jumping/jittering grass in battles
The major pop in due to how close the draw distance is.
No anti aliasing
Before I get ridiculed, this is the first Pokémon game I’ve ever purchased and I’m hooked it’s very addictive but there are better ‘open world’ games out there on performance graphically.
Just see Digital Foundary’s video. https://youtu.be/df0uMcDe41A
I have to say... My children, especially the eldest, were REAAAALLY excited about getting this game. I first played Pokemon Blue and loved it, but that was pretty much the last one I played as the gameplay got stale for me.
I enjoyed helping out my kids on Sun and Moon, but it was still pretty much the same game with a better looking skin on.
Arceus however... My goodness... It's no perfect game by any stretch, but it is a TON of fun, very addictive. Also, it was absolutely hillarious watching my son's reaction as he caught a shiny Onyx. His head nearly exploded.
Plus I already have most of my fave Pokemon. Three guesses which gen they come from.
@Desrever
I thought that was my joycons messing up. I'm kind of glad you pointed that out.
So basically they have done nothing for the first patch.
Ok, now give me some cute clothes and an actual kimono skirt
@Cookiekat kimono skirt
That would be a interesting development to have.
I need a bug fix on pokemon spawning inside mountains and large boulders during outbreaks. The area where I was farming a zorua outbreak has a large rock and the zoruas kept spawning inside the rock. (When I walked up to the rock I could target it and hear the pokemon noticing me)
To preface, I began playing Pokémon since Green (Blue) and Red. The article states, with regards to PLA “Noting how it was one of the best Pokémon games ever made.”
PLA does not include any exclusive/original grass-fire-water starters. PLA “borrows” it’s list of starters from old generations Pokémon games (e.g., Oshawatt - Unova - B/W, Rowlet - Alola - Sun/Moon, etc).
PLA’s starters only undermine the notion that it’s one of the best Pokémon games ever made. It is hard to claim to be the best while stealing your staring lineup from other previous entries in the series - starting off on the wrong foot, if you would.
Compare the depth of content: just comparing PLA to 1 previous entry in the series, say Sword and Shield. SWSH introduced 88 new Pokémon (including the choice from 3 ORIGINAL starters); while, PLA introduces 7 new Pokémon.
88 v 7
And that’s only comparing to SWSH…
Furthermore, some might argue that PLA’s 7 “new” Pokémon, aren’t actually new Pokémon… they are new evolutions of previously released Pokémon (once again undermining the idea that this entry is somehow better than the previous ones).
PLA didn’t even bother with a new Mythic - it appropriates that as well.
These are merely a couple of reasons I strongly disagree with the claim its one of the best Pokémon games ever made.
I get that people really enjoy the new game. I’m glad that GameFreak is giving consumers who were unhappy with the direction and mechanics of the core series something “fresh”. I am sincerely happy that people enjoy playing Pokémon; be it PLA, any of the core games, TCG, just watching the anime’s, etc.
That being said,
Saying it’s one of the best Pokémon games ever made indirectly insults many of the previous entries, which were/are foundational to this game.
There would be no PLA, if not for the majesty and brilliance of games like DP, ORAS, HGSS, pick your favorite. It’s a new format for Pokémon and that’s awesome but “one of the best Pokémon games ever made” … I mean idk 🤷♂️ seems like a bit of an overstatement/hype.
@Laxeybobby welcome to the world of Pokémon!!!
@DrewDruc LA is an experiment. Basically if it sells well this is how Pokemon will be, because it's essentially what sword and shield started to be but expanded. If it didn't sell well and bdsp did then that's the style that would be leaned into. Luckily, la is selling well so the next Pokemon game will probably be an original game based on the foundation laid out be la.
The reason why it's set in sinnoh and not a new place is precisely because it's an experiment. They're hedging their bets by using established concepts that already proved successful that way the real test is whether the new format works without the other variables and honestly effort of coming up with and implementing new concepts on top of a new format.
I actually think LA is a good start, but I would hope they bring back gyms and ditch the monster hunter elements for the next game because those dont feel particularly great in a Pokemon game. It also, again, would be better with a different studio more experienced with 3d open world games and better hardware, but that's probably not going to happen.
@tsdenizen Well aren't you the lucky one. I've only caught one Shiny, Alpha Eevee and that's it. I never did have the best luck though as far as Shiny Hunting goes, maybe I'm doing something wrong or my luck is just really bad? who knows. In Sword and Shield I was getting them nearly everytime I booted the games up, here however? not so much.
@RubyCarbuncle are you using and resetting outbreaks? And do you have the shiny charm? Also alpha shiny Eevee almost makes up for the lack of shinies, damn. I just hit 20 shinies but have yet to see an alpha shiny.
@tsdenizen Yup been trying my luck with those outbreaks for a while now and still nothing but I don't have the Shiny Charm though.
@RubyCarbuncle shiny charm will help. Outbreak odds are still good without it but you'd still need to roll like 10 times to hit odds. Sometime you go over, sometimes under. If you're not going back to Jubilife on your resets, you're not rerolling as well, so that may or may not be an issue.
This update also comes with a really bad bug/glitch that can softlock the game.
***SPOILERS***
There’s a glitch in Pokémon Legends Arceus (ver. 1.0.2) that softlocks mission No. 23. If the player catches Cresselia before speaking with Melli, then Melli won’t acknowledge the capture and Cresselia won’t respawn, preventing the mission from being marked as complete.
A quick search of the internet will show that plenty of players are having this issue, but there's been nothing about it on this site. It's very easy to walk into this softlock, as all the player needs to do is access Moonview Arena and capture Cresselia without first speaking to Melli. You can just walk right past them without triggering any sort of cut scene, and since Cogita provides the quest there doesn't seem to be any reason to speak with Melli unless you're already warned about this issue.

@Deerock69 @Moonlessky
In case you're still having issues, try going into the Switch settings and recalibrating the joystick (or update the firmware if you haven't already)
If that doesn't help, you can toggle sprinting off and on by clicking in the Left joystick (L3) It made a huge difference for me, and overall improved my experience.
