Update [Tue 4th Jan, 2022 04:30 GMT]: The three Luigi's Mansion LEGO sets are now available. Here's your reminder:
Original article [Sun 31st Oct, 2021 12:05 GMT]: Surprise! Nintendo and LEGO will be expanding their Super Mario series with the announcement of three brand new sets based on the Luigi's Mansion series.
While this announcement has been made on Halloween, they won't actually be arriving until 1st January next year. So, what's on offer? Below is the name of each set and some additional information. Noticeably they won't include the Luigi figure - so you'll need to pick up his Starter Course first.
- Lab and Poltergust
- Haunt-and-Seek
- Entryway
"Snap on your Poltergust and get ready to defeat ghosts, solve puzzles, and discover frightfully fun adventures with LEGO Super Mario™ Luigi’s Mansion™ Sets. Coming soon…"
"Add some frightful fun to your #LEGOSuperMario experience with these new Luigi’s Mansion sets! All three ghostly sets arrive 1/1/22!"
Apart from this announcement, Nintendo has also released a free Metroid Dread demo to celebrate Halloween this year, which you can download from the Switch eShop.

... I'd SO much prefer a classic-LEGO style Luigi's Mansion.. And a Peach's Castle, too, while we're at it.
Ah January, the spookiest time of the year
@ImagineerNik Probably couldn't get them out in time due to supply line issues and all that going on right now. It's taking me two weeks to get FedEx packages so I'm sure larger shipments are even worse.
Oh boy, didn't see that coming...
Did i saw toad?
I'm trying so hard to like the general aesthetics / appearance of this mario lego sets but I just can't I haven't been able to buy a single one of those bec of that , I love traditional Lego minifigs way too much.
How is it I made it to adulthood with no lego and now I am buying them like an addict? Geez if they start making sailormoon sets I am going to a step program.
Just give us the mini figures for each character already!
I really wish you could buy Mario or Luigi separately. It’s a big reason why I’m keeping away, because I don’t care for the starter packs they come in. But things like air ship and these look awesome.
Really cool to see lesser known Mario IPs get the Lego treatment. I don't usually buy stuff like this but Lego WarioWare would be something to consider.
I just wish they were classic sets. Brilliant ideas hampered by those god awful Mario and Luigi designs.
WEN Zelda Lego set?
@angus_luissen yeah, the coin counting gimmick loses its fun pretty quick. All of these characters need proper Minifig treatment.
it would have been a lot nicer if they made a doll house style Luigi's Mansion Lego set. just imagine a Lego style doll house featuring the mansion from the first Luigi's Mansion game. the set would probably end up being 10,000+ pieces but would be worth it for those who love Legos and Super Mario.
@Jayenkai agreed, something along the lines of the new awesome Home Alone house set
Dang, so none of them actually come with Luigi?
I was never really interested in the others but I like these. I may just have to buy the Green Mustache on eBay
Looks worse then those that submitted their own LEGO designs.....
More plastic garbage destined for a landfill. Yes I'm fun at parties, to all of those devastatingly original comedians who want to know.
LEGO Bogmire is sick! I hope more sets will be based on Mansions 2 and 3, but this is very welcomed regardless.
SCREAM! AN ARTICLE!
That's no way to honour a game known for its great interactivity and visual design... These are about the, well, blockiest designs they could make, for the most well rounded series in the Mario universe. Even some 3d gba games had less blocky in game characters. Standard sets with mini figures would have been hard to resist. This is almost hard to not dislike, but I simply don't really care that they exist, I guess. Nice for those who do like them.
I would have much rather had an actual mini figure size mansion like the new home alone set, but I’m still gonna end up getting the two with e.gadd cause he looks funny, and then the one with the ghost dog whatever it’s name is.
@CovidBarbie I hear you, but Lego is like the one plastic toy that doesn't go in the landfill, at least not nearly as fast. Barbie's playhouse may go in the landfill, but my son is currently playing with Lego that is 25 years old.
"There is no limit to how long LEGO bricks last, as they never decompose. However, as far as “being worn out” due to overuse is concerned, there is a limit, and Phillipe Cantin has the answer! By conducting an experiment involving a pair of 3X3 Lego bricks, he found that after being put together and taken apart for 37,112 times, the Lego bricks got damaged." (brickrecycler.com)
This seems interesting. Maybe a Mario Kart set next?
my kids love lego mario. and had clear out some old toys and pocket money to buy the luigi set
@nimnio I had thought aboyt saying the same thing. If you're going to buy your kids toys at all, Lego is the only one that isn't guaranteed to be landfill ten years later. It's universal, easy to store, appeals to kids of every generation and a fair number of adults, AND lasts forever.
Not to say it's not an environmental hazard. It certainly is. In fact TLG are experimenting with different plant-based plastics with the idea of eventually replacing the ABS. The problem is that so far they haven't found a replacement that works as well as ABS, so to make any change they will pretty much have to sacrifice quality and upset their absolutely massive fandom of adult builders with new, subpar materials that don't match.
Change will come eventually, though. It has to. The environmental impact of Lego production is massive, and the company just gets bigger and bigger.
They've already started replacing the window elements in all their new sets (and you best believe there's been some whining from fans about that) and are switching to paper bags inside the sets instead of plastic starting next year. But of course, these are minor things compared to the impact of the bricks themselves.
@OFFICIALMichi You can find them for purchase without the set on Bricklink.
Omg yes! This is so cool, I didn't think they'd actually do it! Wow!
Most of these Mario sets do nothing for me, and this batch is no different. I like Legos in general, I feel like adults would be more interested in larger-scale Lego versions of familar locales, like Luigi's Mansion itself or Peach's Castle or something with standard minifigure models for each character instead of these playset-inspired themes they've been doing. But if kids (or other adults, lol) are enjoying these, then more power to them! Lego is clearly making a profit from this series so I'm glad to see Nintendo get some publicity either way, these sets just don't do much for me personally.
Where is the mansion?
When did nintendo begin to be such a sellout..just stop ;(
Turn around Luigi! Let us see your poltergust 2000.
Since when has Luigi the width of Mario?
They’re just such weird, sprawling and aimless looking sets. It’s so weird for series (both Luigi’s Mansion and Super Mario) that have such tight design in their own ways. I really hope the success of this collaboration between Lego and Nintendo leads to less Duplo-style Lego sets. The Harry Potter sets would be a great kicking off point; I’d love a Hogwarts-style Luigi’s Mansion.
Been collecting the Lego mario stuff for a few months now and I absolutely love it, the builds are usually pretty fun and having the enemies in this blocky style is enjoyable
@Longondo Lego is usually a little more expensive than other toys in general, as they make sure the quality of the bricks are up to a certain standard, and they don't use cheap manufacturing facilities in 3rd world countries to drive down the price.
I'm waiting on the poltergust pack to arrive, my kid has always preferred Luigi (or Uligi as he for some reason insists on calling him..), I've loved Luigis Mansion since the first outing so I would probably have ordered it anyway
does anyone know if Mario can use the Poltergust? (an alternate universe where Luigi never got his own game...lmao) Nintendo should bring the first two Luigi's Mansion games over to the Nintendo Switch.
@angus_luissen The traditional minifigs have always bugged me because I don't think there's enough variety between characters and they don't stand up very well... I think the "traditional minifig" LEGO Sonic looks totally goofy – and I love that they just made a new design for LEGO Mario rather than lazily tacking the mustache onto a minifig.
The square King Boo amuses me.
@stevenw45
Yes, Mario can use the poltergust, just recieved the package and, even though it took some persuasion, I got petmission from my kid to test it
@kukabuksilaks
this was a bit of a rhetorical question, but thanks for the answer i was more so hoping that someone would post a picture of Mario or Luigi using the poltergust with the animations in use.
i have work so i won't be able to play with the different sets until the weekend. and i don't think Walmart will let me put up Lego displays up in the store even if it becomes a best seller.
