The Polish video game company CD Projekt Group - known for titles such as The Witcher III and Cyberpunk 2077 - has acquired the US-based developer The Molasses Flood.
This studio is perhaps best known for the survival-building base games The Flame in the Flood, and more recently Drake Hollow.
Here's what CD Projekt's president and CEO, Adam Kiciński, had to say about the new team coming aboard:
“We’re always on the lookout for teams who make games with heart. The Molasses Flood share our passion for video game development, they’re experienced, quality-oriented, and have great technological insight. I’m convinced they will bring a lot of talent and determination to the Group.”
And The Molasses Flood studio head, Forrest Dowling, shared the following statement:
“From the inception of The Molasses Flood, it was our goal to create games that touch and inspire people. When CD PROJEKT approached us about the possibility of working together, we saw an incredible opportunity to reach a much wider audience through a collaboration with a company we love, creating games in worlds we love. We could not be more excited to continue our mission with the support of CD PROJEKT and their incredibly talented team.”
The official PR goes on to state how the newly acquired studio will be working on its own "ambitious" project based on one of CD Projekt's IPs - with details to be shared in the future.

CD Projekt has just two IPs so there's little to muse about which one. And both are based on existing licenses.
Awesome. Maybe now they can finally make Cyberpunk 2077. /s
No more patches for Flame in the flood yet. All those crashes to menu… should never have paid for such shoddy work. Expected a patch for the longest time but it never came.
I've never been big on The Witcher series but I love Cyberpunk 2077.
Flame in the flood is one of my fav indie titles. Hugely frustrating at times but great fun. Excited to see what they are cooking up with CDP
I'm concerned. CD Project Red started as one of the most humble and interesting studios of AAA games. The way they approach updates and DLC is commendable. I even love how well they communicate with fans.
But.. ever since Cyberpunk 2077 they just can't get their act together, and I'm worried. Now they pick up a studio that needs some serious help with its challenges? Why couldn't they just pick up a studio that actually would have provided them a better reputation, and more IPs that don't fall flat in fans faces.
Either its a high risk they know they can achieve, or they will fall and be faded for history.. it is hard to tell. It could go either way, and they better be careful.
So we all know there probably just gonna run support on cyberpunk right.
Good that like minded studios are coming together to help further development for smaller teams.
A good acquisition, hopefully they redeem themselves with this.
Flame in the Flood was a delightful game. Glad to see CDPR expanding.
@Slowdive *The Witcher 1 or 2 remake? *
That would be something to look forward to.
For worse or bad or happy marriage. At least couldn't be worse then other game scandals that been going on from work place Abuse/Gender discriminations to out right hostile work place. Hopefully CDJ doesn't go down this rabbit hole.
Really couldn't scrape any enjoyment out of Flame in the Flood myself, despite what seemed like an easy premise to succeed with. All they needed to do was ride the coattails of Oregon Trail and mix in some Don't Starve along the way. I chaffed at the graphics, camera, controls, crafting... menus in general.
Not sure if this is the way to proceed CDPR.
@SmaggTheSmug
There is the off ... and I mean really off chance it might be a game based on one of the IPs GOG has full or exclusive publishing rights for, but yeah ... I can't see this being anything other then a Witcher game set in the same age as the Netflix spin off.
@Mynameishello Flame in the Flood is far away from being my favorite Game. But I had none of the issues you mentioned on Switch....
