You're either here because you remember our last post about Poké Lids, and you want to see more, or you're here because you saw the headline and thought, "what the hell are Poké Lids?" Well, the latter is about to become the former, because these are Poké Lids:
Poké Lids are a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and whoever is in charge of Japanese sewers, and they function as brightly-coloured decorative manhole covers. It might seem like a strange collab, but Japan's gorgeous manhole covers are so well-known that they even made it into Animal Crossing: New Horizons!
Past Poké Lids have featured at least 150 different Pokémon, with several of the designs featuring two or more at once. These sewer-hats might be the only time you'll ever see Lapras and Lickitung hanging out at the beach, or Mareep and Vulpix having a chat in a cornfield.
The newest five Poké Lids are all being installed in Kyoto parks, and feature a bunch of different Pokémon having fun in the sun.
The Pokémon Company is reportedly still working on making every single Poké Lid function as a PokéStop for Pokémon GO. You can check out every Poké Lid (and the cute merch that features some of the designs) on this handy website.
Which one of the new Lids is your favourite? Let us know in the comments.

I don't go online so much really but I thought totodile was popular when I played silver and I hated him so I guess I was right all along lol everyone does hate him. Cyndaqil gang for life
Never thought sewer lids could be beautiful but here we are
So cute!
Japan really takes pride in their cities. It is impressive how clean Tokyo is from litter even with very few public trash cans around.
@Tandy255 a lot of cities regularly clean the streets and littering is punished harshly
And then cars drive all over them and it's ruined
@Thelastjedi2007 When I moved into my house, an 80 year old woman walked down the brand new street with a shopping trolley, pulling up the freshly planted flowers and putting them in her trolley. You can make things illegal but if nobody’s there to stop people doing things then they’ll just do it.
@Kevember Nah, all pokemon belong there, she's just glad that Todadile finally got there too.
That Ho-oh one is rather gorgeous, isn’t it? I never thought I’d have cause to describe something as a ‘majestic sewer hat’, but that’s a majestic sewer hat if ever there was one.
Pokemon Medals.
Why does totodile, my favorite mon belong in the sewer???
We need to outdo Japan and make all our cars like pokemon!
That Totodile comment, hmm. There is no friendship to be had between myself and people who have no taste in quality.
I think some people are just jealous Totodile has the type advantage over the most popular Johto starter. It's a perfect little crocodile and absolutely deserves the beautiful art it got here.
With the current western collecting/hoarding culture, I wouldn't be much surprised if when a similar iniciative was adopted in our cities, the manholes would start to go missing around town and into the shelves of enthusiasts 🙄
